Trophy Wife was surprisingly funny. No thread for that, huh?

I thought the show was off to a good start. The voice-over is extrememly Wonder Years. Hopefully there won't be as much of it in future episodes. I don't like when shows overuse it.
And to answer a question from earlier, yes, Jeff Garlin yells his lines on Curb Your Enthusiasm just as much.

Not to get too off-topic, but, oh god, season 9's "'Til Death Do You Part" twist was LAME. Sharon was a hoot to watch, but this was one of the worst cast's they had.
I would imagine the ratings from last night's The Goldbergs were decent enough.

I didn't like it all that much. I don't think Ill keep up with this.
Trophy Wife, which was on just before this was surprisingly good. Charming with a enough funny moments to get me to come back.

The end credits were probably my favorite part of the episode. Watching those tapes made me appreciate the casting and understand some of the acting choices more. That still doesn't mean I want to spend time with the family every week!

So far the only thing this show has going for it is the 80's references. Some of the stuff I've forgotten even existed.
Aside from that, all this show had was a bunch of yelling.

The voiceover mentioned that cell phones didn't exist but if you watch any episode of Miami Vice in the 80's they obviously did. I also remember some asshole in a theatre was talking on his Motorola brick phone while we watched Back to the Future in 1985.

I thought it was fairly funny. It's not the best sitcom since MASH or anything, but it's better than the run of the mill ABC comedies. I would much rather watch this than Modern Family.
As for those of you expecting a new Wonder Years...I guess I never saw any sign that this was going to be remotely close to Wonder Years in the previews for the shows or in any promotional material for the show. As far as I am concerned, it delivered exactly what it promised to deliver.

"No I'm NOT okay! Barry took a dump in front us!"
Other than that it was fairly mediocre. I'll give another shot.

the daughter is kind of hot. i would be proud to do her in an 80's way.
i will leave this on if i am too drunk to get off my back and am trying to change the channel with the garage opener.
where is Suburgatory?

I liked it. Patton Oswald did the narration and he's only showing 5 episodes on IMDB with the rest of the cast showing 8. It looks like he'll end or be used sparingly.

I couldn't make it through 5 minutes of the first episode. There were enough references to make Seth MacFarlane exhausted, and the entire cast is annoying.

I thought this show was funny. Wouldn't a show including references indicate it takes place now and is referring back to something retro? Given the show takes place in the 80s how could you not have 80s-era shows/movies/clothing/whatever discussed?
I must be missing something about the "loud" part of the family. Jeff Garlin is a generally loud guy so it was expected, but I didn't find it distracting. Really digging it and thought the second episode was great.

The second episode had a lot less yelling. I liked it. My wife it was the funniest of any of the new shows she's seen.

I agree maybe in 89 but now way in 85.

I did notice they were referencing thing associated with the 80's but not many middle class white kids would even be aware of it yet. Set in the "80's" seems to incorporate the entire decade in every show. I'm guessing if you have a pet peeve about references being correct as to their dates you're going to be disappointed.

So The Great Mouse Detective came out in 1986 but Poltergeist ('82) was still in the theaters and Stripes ('81) was at the dollar show? Also, the Whitesnake song they used at the end, I believe, was the version of the song from 1987 (there was an earlier version on an album from '82). Seems they are going to play fast and loose with the '80s timeline. I'll probably just keep watching to nitpick all the dates.

I thought this was the best episode so far, although that's not saying much. Not all the lines were exclamations and there were a few laughs.
Here's another Nitpick to add to the collection (from wikipedia):
The original Reebok Pump was made as a collaboration between Reebok's Paul Litchfield and industrial design firm Design Continuum. It was released in 1989, as a basketball high-top shoe.
