Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D -- Series Premiere -- "Pilot" -- 9/24/13

Synopsis:

AGENT PHIL COULSON IS BACK IN ACTION! THIS FALL HE ASSEMBLES A DEDICATED, HIGHLY SELECT GROUP OF AGENTS FOR THE WORLDWIDE LAW-ENFORCEMENT AGENCY KNOWN AS S.H.I.E.L.D., WITH THEIR FIRST ASSIGNMENT TO TRACK DOWN AN ORDINARY MAN WITH EXTRAORDINARY POWERS - POWERS WHICH COULD HAVE DEVASTATING CONSEQUENCES -- ON THE PREMIERE OF ABC'S "MARVEL'S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D."

Joss Whedon, the creative genius behind the feature film "Marvel's The Avengers," one of the highest grossing films of all time, and of the iconic television series "Buffy The Vampire Slayer," has co-created "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," a dynamic, action-packed one-hour drama that brings back Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) to lead a team of highly skilled agents to investigate extra-normal and super human people and events worldwide. The series premieres TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 (8:00-9:01 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

These agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. have a mission: To investigate the new, the strange and the unknown around the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary.

In the premiere episode, "Pilot," it's just after the battle of New York, and now that the existence of super heroes and aliens has become public knowledge, the world is trying to come to grips with this new reality. Agent Phil Coulson is back in action and has his eye on a mysterious group called The Rising Tide. In order to track this unseen, unknown enemy, he has assembled a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division). The group's first assignment together as a team finds them trying to track down an ordinary man who has gained extraordinary powers. Powers that could have devastating consequences.

"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." stars Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward, Chloe Bennet as Skye, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz and Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons.

Guest starring are J. August Richards as Mike, Shannon Lucio as Debbie, Ron Glass as Dr. Streiten and Bob Stephenson as Gary, with special guest star Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill.

"Pilot" was written by Joss Whedon & Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen and directed by Joss Whedon.

"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," Marvel's first television series, was co-created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen ("Dollhouse," "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog"), who also serve as executive producers along with Jeph Loeb ("Smallville," "Lost," "Heroes") and Jeffrey Bell ("Angel," "Alias"). "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television.

Over/Under the pilot does amazing numbers & by say episode 4 or 5, it goes on 'will it or won't it be cancelled' polls

I may have mentioned it here before, but Ming-Na Wen (real and verified) actually follows me on Twitter. I was shocked to see that. She followed select Agents of Shields fans who talked about it on Twitter and I happened to be one of them.

I hope some of Marvel's lesser known characters, ones which won't cost much for the rights make some guest appearances

There are many which wouldn't even cost much for powers special FX.

e.g. Shang Chi , the Master of Kung Fu

It doesn't cost anything for the rights to any character. Marvel, Disney, and ABC are all the same company.

Could you imagine? Has anything leaked about the pilot from when it was shown? I really haven't read anything on it. I do know from the commericals that Smulders is in it.

They can easily put in Iron Man and Capt in their suits for cameos and not use the film actors. Hulk aswell.

Any word as to this being baddie-of-the-week or serialized at all? (I'm assuming House-style case of the week with an overarching secondary storyline, like most procedurals).

That'd be up to Universal wouldn't it? Or do they only own movie rights to Hulk?

Marvel has Hulk now, that's how he was able to be in Avengers.

But my guess is digital Hulk won't be popping up. He would probably be cheap to put in, but Hulk means smashing, and smashing is where things get expensive.

This is going to be one of those shows that hits big....or becomes one of the biggest failures in recent TV History (Terra Nova a few years back rings a bell).

IMO, By Mid-November it'll be doing 2's. I just don't see people tuning in week in and week out without Iron Man, Thor etc stopping by and chilling.

Yes, I'm even a Joss Whedon Fan (but didn't like The Avengers)

Honestly... I'm surprised Samuel L. Jackson isn't involved in ANY way. He'll take any paycheck. I know they can't give him a lot... but what... a 5 figure pay day for a few cameos every once in a while isnt a bad gig. Do you think he thinks TV is beneath him?

He's a busy guy right now. He has two movies completed pending release, 3 in post production, 2 filming, and 4 in pre-production.

Terra Nova is a good example...people tuned out once they figured out that the balls-to-the-wall dino action promised in the trailer was a lie. But if you wanted to see people farming, I guess that was a good show to watch.

Do you work for ABC?

It's a show that's trying to trick viewers into thinking all their friends from The Avengers will be on it. After a few episodes viewers will flee because Gunn from Angel isn't a superhero they care about. I'd say by episode 15 or so they bring in one of The Avengers (Captain America?) to try and bring the audience back but fails.

It will be renewed for a second Season where it will be moved around the schedule before it dies 18 episodes in.

I would agree with this statement.
