Yup. The show has always been about Walt's pride - his legacy is not Gray Matter, it's Heisenberg and the blue meth.
The show was to inform him that his proprietary cook is going to live on without him, and he is too proud to allow that. He's going to go back to wipe out Jack's group, take out any sort of major distribution player who could start it up again (Lydia) and deal with Jesse (if he now suspects he is alive and back in the equation).

by the way I don't think it was any coincidence that when playing cards in his holdout, Robert Forster's character dealt out 2 Kings .... Walt knows there can only truly be 1 King (in the Empire business)

I mentioned this earlier... I cant see how anyone can NOT feel bad for Walt. He tried making amends with Jesse. That went south when Jesse saw the guy in the leather jacket. He begged for Hanks life, offered ALL of his $ to the Nazis not to kill him. After his family turned on him, he made the call to protect Skylar, and still tried to find a way to send them money. If that doesnt get him some sympathy, Robert Forster wouldnt stay with him for 2 hrs for 10k... he negotiated down to an hour lol.

I think people expect some fairly unrealistic reactions of other characters to Walt's actions. Walt Jr's whole life was torn apart, he found out that the father he idolized is a drug dealer and Walt Jr. thinks Walt killed his uncle. I can't imagine how that makes him an "ungrateful prick of a son". Walt doesn't just get to kill Hank, or play a part in its unfolding and then admit to his mistakes and wash away Walt Jr's pain. I don't feel bad for Walt.

The question then, is so what? I can't imagine he'd be going back for the purpose of saving Jesse given how things went down, and I wouldn't think Jesse would be all that happy to see him anyway.
The ricin has to be for Lydia.

Not necessarily. Walt taught Todd to cook. Sure, he knows Todd was having problems and that's why they asked Walt to come back to help him - and he probably figures they forced Jesse to help. But after this amount of time at the cabin - Walt might assume they held up their end of the deal and killed Jesse at some point when they no longer needed him. I don't think Walt is sure that Jesse is alive - just that it's a possibility.

Actually I think the Gray Matter stuff is the core of the series. More than providing for his family what happened there is what drove Walt to do the things he did. Sweet Walter White after leaving Getchen, accepts a buyout from Gray Matter, losing out on possibly billions of dollars. It is that mistake that his driven him the entire series.
And I think that the show is going to go where people do not expect it to.

Regardless, he isn't on a mission to rescue Jesse. He's on a mission to rescue his 6 barrels of cash.
It'll just be interesting to see what happens when him and Jesse meet up, which pretty much has to happen for the two characters.

I hope we get some closure on Huell - poor guy has probably starved to death, afraid to leave that motel room.

But I do disagree with you. The reason I don't feel bad for Walt was because this was all his doing. Every bad thing that has happened on this show has started with Walt's pride. And it seems his pride will eventually be his downfall.
Remember, all of this could have been avoided if he took the handout that the Grey Matter people were giving him. He chose to cook meth and go down this path. He said he did it all for his family but he could have taken the hand out which would have been just as useful to his family. Instead his pride got to him and he became obsessed with the money and building an empire. Everything that happened from there was because of his actions.

I really liked the way Lydia's meeting with Todd echoed Lydia's first appearance when she met with Mike and tried to pull the "Let's sit back to back while I order tea and stevia" crap on him and got completely shut down.

Anyone else laugh when Todd gave Jesse Stephen Colbert's ice cream?
Also, Robert Forster was awesome as the vacuum repair guy. I never thought we would see him.

I agree. And I think the writers keep showing us this, even in small ways. Last week's episode showed dead Hank being dragged, and when his body is moved we see Walt laying down on the ground behind him - telling us that Walt is behind Hank's death. I'm not sure if that was done purposely, but it looked obvious to me - and this show has done things like that in the past.

Walt seemed to get angry way before they mentioned the blue was still being sold. He's probably aware that there is imitation blue out there.

Not that I disagree with this all happening because of the decisions Walt's made, but they were only offering to pay his medical bills correct? Walt was trying to go way beyond that and provide for his family even after he was dead.

Great stuff. I don't think we'll see the Gray Matter folks again. Too much other stuff to wrap up to have Walt spending time trying to get to them, IMO.
He's definitely going after Todd's crew. And I still think the ricin's for Lydia. I'm not sure he knows/thinks Jesse is alive.

The timing of the Gray Matter show and Walt about to get caught for good was a little forced, but I'm looking forward to what happens next anyway.

You certainly have an interesting point of view on Walt that's different than most people and I think that's great.
But I do disagree with you. The reason I don't feel bad for Walt was because this was all his doing. Every bad thing that has happened on this show has started with Walt's pride. And it seems his pride will eventually be his downfall.

I constantly flip flop on my viewpoint of Walt. Last week when he took time to tell Jesse that he watched Jane die, that was done out of a cruel cold heart. It served him no logical purpose to do that to Jesse. But I felt bad for him in this episode. Paying a guy 10K just so he won't be alone for awhile is pretty dark and bleak.
Cancer changes a person, certainly on your outlook in life. Walt knew he was a walking death sentence and that stripped away his fear of consequences. At one point, he calculated the exact amount he needed to provide for his family so he could walk away. He did try to leave the business a few times.
But maybe Walt really is just an egotistical evil bastard. I won't know for sure until the finale is over.

Re: Breaking Bad -- 75 minute episode -- "Granite State" -- 9/22/13
I don't think Walt Jr. was stupid for reacting the way he did. Walt basically admitted to killing Hank in his call to Skyler, and I doubt she has said anything different about what happened than Walt led on, to protect herself and her family. Only problem with this is what she may have already confessed to Marie and Jr. at the car wash when she thought Walt was under arrest.
Jr. and Skyler accepting that money would also be a mistake, and would demonstrate complicity with Walt's activities should it be discovered, no matter how badly they might need it. I'm confident that would NOT remain a secret for long.
Outstanding episode. Two of the best episodes of TV ever these last few weeks. Todd's character is just unnerving. Andrea's murder was cold - poor Brock.
Walt's fate is sad. Reduced to living alone in the woods with almost no human contact and unable to spend any of his money. At least we know he has nothing to lose at this point, so I can't wait to see how he goes out next week. I don't see how the show has a happy ending, at this point. It's already pretty tragic.
Loved Saul's (probable) final appearance. "I'm going to regret asking this..."

I avoid spoilers and don't watch previews so Robert Forster's appearance was a nice surprise. He fit right in to this world.

I loved seeing Forster. Mr. Max Cherry.
