Shark Tank (ABC) -- Series Thread Part II

I don't know what that was supposed to be about. It doesn't make for a very interesting segment if the person only does half their pitch and we don't learn much.

It looked totally staged to me, Robert is not an actor by trade. This was a stunt probably done for Sweeps.
I simply enjoy this show's premise. The presenters are getting smarter on how to pitch their businesses. Shark Tank is one of the most reliable hours of television I watch each week.
I believe the guy with the scholarship app had wanted to partner with Cuban before going into the tank, which is why he didn't immediately accept Lori's offer. That app business isn't really scalable, which would have been pointed out by the other sharks if Lori hadn't put so much pressure on him to immediately accept. I think the two sharks wanted to be in business with the presenter more than actually owning that app.

He felt they were giving the deal for charity/he's a good guy reasons, not for business reasons.
A businessperson would want to know more about the product.
For example, it sounded like all of the scholarships were hand-entered into the database using info from other websites. What happens next year and as scholarships change? Do they need to be personally researched and hand-entered again? If so, bad product. It needs to be live and up to date.
I also thought it was inexcusable for the guy to say he had "between 10,000 and 20,000" scholarships in it.
If my boss ever asked me a quantifiable question--about timelines, money, whatever--and my answer is "It's X or it's double X" then I need to narrow something down because my answer sucks.

I'm disappointed in the contrived ending to that deal. I'm sure there are a lot of moments that are played up in the show but that one was so blatant. This isn't the first charity case/good person deal they've done on the show.

It didn't feel contrived to me. Robert gets pissy about a lot of things on the show. The only thing that felt forced was the other two walking out. They implied that they were so mad, they walked too, when for all we know, it may have just been break time anyway. I don't think Kevin gave a crap one way or the other.

Yeah, I just watched this a little while ago and didn't understand the drama.
I thought it was an excellent idea and a truly beneficial app. I neither understood why Lori and Damon jumped on it with so little info (unless they saw a lot of potential and the guy vastly undervalued it) and I also didn't understand Robert's rage or Mark being irritated.
Lori was awfully pushy to get the guy to agree before any of the others asked questions, to let the guy hear other offers or even answer other questions. The whole thing was bizarre.
But Lori does seem to irritate at least one of the other sharks in each episode. I would love to know what they truly think of each other behind the scenes.

Lori is testy. No doubt. I really don't like her but I like her more with Daymond there rather than Barbara. But Robert was totally bizarre in this one. "We're all going to walk out?!" Huh? Like I said - contrived. Just seemed so forced. I'm amazed that they didn't throw this in a Tuesday episode to churn it up.

Shark Tank got 2.2 in the demos which is very good for Friday. The fight apparently hyped up the ratings a bit. Anyway, Lori and Daymond gave the guy exactly what he asked for and he gets two sharks. I don't have a problem with them asking him to make up his mind right away. Mark pulls that all the time and Robert will pull his offer if he thinks the person is "disrespecting" him by asking for other offers. If he was specifically going after one shark, he should have asked if Mark or Robert can go in on the deal with them as well.

I am very surprised we haven't seen a younger shark added to the series. None of them are particularly young and there has to be a twenty-something Silicon Valley billionaire running around that wants to be on television.
Cuban and Mr. Wonderful have enough money for hundreds of lifetimes, they are only on this show for the fame and adulation.

I didn't feel Robert's blow-up was contrived. If it was staged, he wouldn't have said a couple times about how much he respected Lori and Damon. Now, Mr. Wonderful and Cuban walking off may have been added...but I don't think the part with Robert was.
Of course, everyone is so jaded with scripted stuff in reality TV, some of you will never believe it wasn't planned.

I think Robert was really angry and went off in a huff. I think the other two were just ready to get up and leave and ABC then staged the Lori and Damon congratulatory after talk to make it appear that there was a big fight.

I won't go on about what everyone already discussed, only to add a question: Was it my imagination, or did Robert continually place his hand on Lori's arm/leg as he spoke? Not just once, mind you, but time after time? Seemed... bizarre. Maybe I'm missing something/seeing+looking at it wrong.

robert was genuinely angry/upset. you could hear his voice wavering once or twice. i think he, mark and kevin had a valid concern. i mean, they wouldn't even let the guy talk about the backend so they could get more information to make an informed offer. sure, sometimes they invest in the people rather than the product. but usually that is after the person has made a full pitch and heard plans for the future, etc. we didn't even get that.
you could tell mark was genuinely pissed as well. he wanted to hear about he technology because he was interested in possibly purchasing it.

That could be very possible. Remember the sharks that "win" the offers have an incentive to draw as much attention as possible to those segments.

Definitely not a concocted imbroglio, in my view. One could see Robert getting choked up, as he is wont to do, when he began speaking to Lori and started in on his (utility) patented "When I came to 'this' country..." schtick.
As for the other two walking off, I think it was more a matter of the "filmed segment" being done anyway, and the cameras running longer than they normally would, unbeknownst to them. They were going to take a piss.

Re: Shark Tank (ABC) -- Series Thread Part II
With all the Robert bashing, I kinda felt bad for him this week. He seemed far more into the Frill pitch than anybody else, offered them exactly what they wanted, and they then passed for a worse deal. And Robert looked pretty hurt by the whole thing. He's always been kind of the "weak link" of the group but man, he really came off as the low man this time. And that's with the Frill girls even pitching their Canada angle, and they still didn't want him.

Robert looked like he was very interested in that young woman pitching the gown business.
The sharks have to realize that some businesses want to partner with specific sharks. They often don't want to deal with the other sharks. That one couple pretty clearly were targeting Lori and were always going to accept her offer if it was in the ballpark. If I were this show's producers, I would probably drop Lori. She has such a clear advantage in certain categories over the other sharks that it makes the pitch and negotiations less interesting.

The pitch from the lingerie company was bizarre and at times I questioned if she was high on something. Either that woman knew going in she had no intention of taking an offer (very possible as a crafty Silicon Valley entrepreneur wanting a free commercial) or completely fell apart on national television.
The obvious issue with her pitch was that despite the beautifully designed lingerie from that company and four male sharks, the lingerie was being worn by...plastic dummies. Did ABC forbid them from allowing models to wear the lingerie on air? Something was going on with that pitch, I don't think everything was on the up and up.
