The Great Food Truck Race Season 4 (Food Network, premieres 8/18/13)
The great food truck race is back for round four and our longest route ever! This season features over 4,000 miles of breakdowns, obstacles and challenges. We've got eight brand new teams of dreamers: they all have heart, they all have skills, and all they need is a truck.

I ate at Tikka Tikka Tacos when they were coming through town. The food was shit. Bland, boring Indian "tacos" And amazingly expensive - I think it was $5 for a taco. In this town, taco carts sell them for $1.75 each. Also, they had "naanchos" which was pre-packaged Naan sliced into triangles, served with some melted cheese and some spinach - I saw some dude get his order ($11) and he said to the guy "I paid $11 for this?" and walked away in disgust.

Thanks for the reminder.
Been a regular at previous winners Lime Truck (they set up about five miles from me) and Seoul Sausage since discovering the show. Love it.

Aloha Plate will likely rake in the bucks.
It'll have enough Asian influence to be this year's Korean food truck that always wins.

I'm glad that it's back. I was afraid that the FN decided to replace it with the boring Food Court Wars series.

I decided to toss in a what-the-heck poll this season. It's scheduled to end about 24 hours after the first episode in case anyone wants to wait and see how the teams look on the actual show. Sorry to those who have already voted.
I just returned from an island vacation and am hooked on loco moco.
I never got around to watching that one. Just as well, I guess.

I'll wait until the first episode before I try to pick favorites.

Either way, I think Tyler Florence is one of the most bland hosts the Food Network has (though, since it is Food Network, I'm sure there is focus group data demonstrating that he's a great host). Too bad they don't swap him out for someone like Aaron Sanchez, or maybe Justin Warner.

Food Court Wars is alright, depending on the episode. I did just see one where I wanted to strangle one of the female contestants.

I only watched the first season. Does winning still only require to be top on the final city? That really turned me off that the team won all but NY in the first season and then lost because they went against a team that did burgers which was better for the demographic then their Korean food.

Yes unfortunately, it's a bit unfair.
Those Naanchos looked ridiculously weak for an insane price.
Cutthroat Kitchen is a little overkill with the sabotage but could be fun if they refine it a bit.

I love real Philly cheesesteaks more than almost anything so I have to pick the Samboni truck. Now I'm actually going to watch the episode now that Breaking Bad has aired :-)

I would think that they would receive some kind of training with the food trucks, especially some kind of safety course, which should have covered the shut-off valve for the propane. Maybe they just forgot it was there, but what we were shown seemed to indicate they didn't know about it.
And did I hear that the Philly truck was putting Swiss cheese on their sandwiches? I thought that was big no-no.

While authentic Phillys are made with Cheez Whiz it isn't uncommon for people to sell them with superior cheeses.

Yeah, it seemed like they offered a choice of cheeses. I didn't hear cheese wiz but they did say "american" and swiss.

Re: The Great Food Truck Race Season 4 (Food Network, premieres 8/18/13)
I remember a huge shitstorm erupted about ten years ago when presidential candidate John Kerry attempted to order a Philly steak sandwich with Swiss cheese on it from one of the cheesesteak joints in Philadelphia.
Which, as a midwesterner, strikes me as kind of strange. We don't really have local quirks like that, where if you don't eat the right kind of pizza or get the wrong condiment on your hamburger you're subjected to shunning and ridicule.
Personally, I don't see anything wrong with Swiss on a steak sandwich and would find it preferable to Cheez Whiz, but it seems to be some kind of local taboo. Struck me as odd that a truck selling "Philly" steaks would break the taboo.

It isn't, most places in Philly offer it with different cheeses (was there last week), some don't even offer it with Cheez Whiz. It's politics, you tear apart anything and everything.

Try ordering ketchup on your hotdog in Chicago.
