Magic City - Season 2 - Fridays on STARZ

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/KBK8vQvGGc4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Not a lot of action last season in the threads, although there should be. If you aren't watching, check it out. Season premiere is tonight, June 14th at 9pm.

You can watch the premiere episode already on Youtube:

In the Season 2 premiere, Ike faces a murder rap and his family tries to raise bail money, which leads them to discover just who his silent partners are. Meanwhile, Ben is concerned that Ike will fold under pressure and offers to help.

Re: Magic City - Season 2 - Fridays on STARZ

Great show. Beautiful looking in HD as well.

Really enjoyed season 1 even though it was so short at only 8 episodes. At least their is 10 for season 2.

Looking forward to seeing how James Caan and Esai Morales fit into the cast.

and Olga Kurylenko IMO is one of the most gorgeous women I've seen on film and TV.

And dex, season 1 weekly commentary was indeed light because honestly not many people in this forum have Starz. Once Spartacus ended it's season most here cancelled their subscriptions.

BTW, that Youtube posting of the premiere episode might be censored. IIRC, the show is TV-MA. That posting is TV-14.

If it is indeed censored, I think you want it on Starz's website.

I'd say no, you need to watch season 1 first.

Looking forward to the new season.

I wanted to like this show more but the first season didn't really do much for me.

Did you finish the entire 8 episodes?

It's a real slow burn period show, but I got really into the last few episodes. It's a gorgeous looking show and I think really captures the look of the period well. Plus, it's a lot more grittier than say Mad Men.

And yes, for anyone who is curious. You need to see season 1 first. It ends on a cliffhanger involving the lead character played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

You can probably still watch the 8 episodes on demand.

Nope for streaming. It's a Starz series and they ended their relationship with Netflix 2 years ago. Not sure about the BD's though.

Decent premier. Sherilyn Fenn hasn't aged as well as I had hoped.

Re: Magic City - Season 2 - Fridays on STARZ

Yeah decent 1st episode. Nothing really big happened. It really just served as a continuation from the last episode to resolve Ike being in jail.

Agree, Sherilyn Fenn looked awful. Kelly Lynch, who is also on the show, is 6 years older but is smoking hot compared to her.

Interesting note, Kelly Lynch is married to Mitch Glazer, the creator of Magic City.

Vera looked stunning as usual.

Judi recanting her testimony to get Ike off was great. Loved the attorney's reaction.

You should check out this great interview with her from last year, if you haven't already: http://www.avclub.com/articles/kelly...playing,86567/

My favorite part:
By the way, speaking of Bill Murray, every time Road House is on and he or one of his idiot brothers are watching TV—and they’re always watching TV—one of them calls my husband and says [In a reasonable approximation of Carl Spackler], “Kelly’s having sex with Patrick Swayze right now. They’re doing it. He’s throwing her against the rocks.” [Away from the receiver.] What? Oh, my God. Mitch was just walking out the door to the set, and he said that Bill once called him from Russia.

AVC: Sorry, not to dwell on this, but you said that Bill Murray “or one of his idiot brothers” will call. Which brothers are we talking about?

KL: All of them! Joel has called; Brian Doyle has called. They will all call! Any and all of them!

AVC: This was already an awesome story, but now it’s even better.

KL: I know, right? I dread it. If I know it’s coming on—and I can tell when it’s coming on, because it blows up on Twitter when it is—I’m just like, “Oh, my God…” And God help me when AMC’s doing their Road House marathon, because I know the phone is just going to keep ringing. It doesn’t matter if it’s 2 or 3 in morning. “Hi, Kelly’s having sex with Patrick Swayze right now…”

Why did they change the theme music? It was catchy.

No idea, and I didn't feel it was an improvement.

Hope they change it back to the original theme (Lujon by Henry Mancini).

Re: Magic City - Season 2 - Fridays on STARZ

I thought the first season was decent, but not great.

I do think the show got a lot more interesting with this first episode of the second season. A couple of the plot lines taken made me think this.
Spoiler:
First, I thought when the State's Attorney took the written statement of Judy and just burned it in front of his subordinates was fairly compelling. It showed that he would stop at nearly nothing to "get his man." Nothing like a little prosecutorial misconduct to make it more interesting. Plus, with The Butcher's mole inside the State's Attorney's office, one has to wonder when the burning of "the evidence" will be used against Klein, if ever. There certainly were several witnesses to corroborate one another. Second, Ike's proposal that he thought up to Chicago to make an offer to Fidel Castro to run the Havana casinos was interesting as well. Looks like Chicago will now have a few more characters in the show coming up, too.

Just put that in spoilers for any that may not have watched this series, yet.

One question, ... at the very end, that was Judy Silver that Ike went to visit and apologize to, wasn't it? (at first, I thought it might have been Mercedes)

Re: Magic City - Season 2 - Fridays on STARZ

Thanks.

Forgot about another plot line that took a further interesting development:

Spoiler:
The Stevie-Lily Diamond affair. When Ben "The Butcher" Diamond found proof positive of Lily's affair in the photos (who sent him those?), I thought he was going to kill them both. But, the scene by pool with his wife ended a little different than I thought. And, then the freaky scene where he made her invite Stevie over and watched them through the mirror in the ceiling. Also, the subsequent interaction between the three of them at the hotel.

With the new investment by The Butcher in the new whore/sex house with the planned two-way mirrors where husbands watch their wives make out, there should be some interesting "Eyes Wide Shut" scenes coming up.

The Butcher is one strange or demented character.

Episode 2 - 'Angels Of Death'
Ike sets a risky plan to rid his Miramar Playa of Ben Diamond in motion. Ben seeks permission to kill Ike. Stevie and Lily go on a real date. Meg threatens Vera, and Ben hosts a debauched "Seder".

Finally watched the season 2 opener last night -- agree that it set several things in motion for the season. Also agree that Sherilyn Fenn looked terrible, which is too bad. She's only 48.

Re: Magic City - Season 2 - Fridays on STARZ

Friday's episode was good. I like the setup with Ike going to Cuba. Should make an interesting setting.

James Caan is a nice addition and it looks like he's an associate to Ben Diamond. Nice to hear Caan drop a few f bombs as well.

Not sure what to make of Esai Morales' role yet. I guess he's a recent defector.

Okay, not quite sure what to make of that last scene with Diamond and the orgy through his peep hole. Did he piss or jizz on that glass?

Unfortunately it looks like season 2 is only 8 episodes again.

^ Yeah, no joke. BD is one strange cat. Somehow Stevie went unnoticed on his date with Lily despite Ben's bookie being at the same club.

Re: Magic City - Season 2 - Fridays on STARZ

Really slow, but overall a good episode on Friday night.

I think the season is just starting to get going.

Did anyone who watched notice who Ike was sitting with on the plane ride back from Cuba? Jack Ruby. The same guy who killed Lee Harvey Oswald. Kind of random, but cool that they added a real historical character.

So Ben Diamond likes to jerk off to his wife having sex with Stevie? I wasn't quite sure that he knew about Stevie until now.

Judging by that phone call at the end, looks like Ike's deal with the Madame Minister and the Cubans is about to happen.
