Best season of TV ever? Eh, not quite
Already been discussed , but Season 3 is just the first half of Storm of Swords. To compare the series to the book, one will have to view Season 3 & 4 together to get the full impact. Seeing it as a 20-episode season covering one entire book, it might seem like one of the greatest seasons ever. A lot of upcoming big events for S. 4 were set up this season and in seasons 1 & 2. Many big payoffs coming next year.

Also, book readers can go straight from one chapter to the next, can skip ahead to pick up on a character's storyline, etc. without having to wait. Those are luxuries not afforded to viewers.

And there are no budget constraints in novels. Big events in the series are even bigger in the books (and involve a bigger cast). Good as the series is, it can't hope to match the epic scope of the books on a cable tv budget (though it makes an exceedingly admirable attempt).

We know it takes a month to get from the south to the north on the main continent. When they show Sam writing a message and then in the next scene someone in another part of the world is opening that message, everyone realizes that it wasn't an email and actually had to travel there. We see messengers riding up on horseback.

I have never had a problem with the passage of time on this show.
I think there are lots of examples, specifically with the passage of time over the Wall and with the Danny storylines.

Just look at where we have been with Danny in the last 3 episodes (or even 4). You mean to tell me she has just been chilling for weeks, maybe months in Yunkai and in all of that time, she has met with one head dude, met with the 3 mercenaries, taken over the city (in episode 9) and at the VERY end of episode 10, the slaves finally come flowing out the front door. So based on that how much actual time has passed from the time she and the Unsullied arrive at Yunkai to when the slaves are liberated? Even the book readers will tell you that some of the story lines being told out of order for sake of the show.

She's still a highborn lady who happens to be second in line to Winterfell and Sansa is looked at as a Lannister toadie. SOMEONE will pay big money for her.

The problem with
Spoiler:
LS
in the series is that it may lead to confusion with people thinking it's one of the "others."

This isn't that funny IMO, but some of you might like it.

They could have done it with two lines of dialog in the Roose/Walder conversation:

Spoiler:
Roose: And what of Lady Stark?

Walder: I had the Tully thrown in the river where "Fish" belong.

Contains some quotes from the books, but no major spoilers for the TV series as it mostly covers the first novel. Nothing "Red Wedding" level here.
I've been convinced of this theory for awhile but this is the best article I've seen showing why this must be true.

Great hearing about GoT winning some awards. It would be amazing if it got some love at the Emmy's and Globes. I think the final Season of Breaking Bad might make that tough though.

That would have worked too and probably been easier.

Interesting background read for someone who hasn't read the books.

Thanks.

Not looking for any future book spoilers, but if true this would mean
Spoiler:
Jon is Dany's nephew? And that Jon might be the "Ice" and Dany the "Fire" of A Song of Ice and Fire? And presumably that Jon will play a big role at some point...

I thought Pip went north of the Wall with everyone. Did everyone from the massacre at Crastor's come back already?

No, Pip stayed behind. I can't remember how it went down in the book, but I think the only people to make it back were Jon and Sam, with Gilly and her baby in tow.

Pip stayed back as a steward. Only Rangers went ranging with the exception of Jon Snow (who was being groomed for command and to find his uncle Benjen) and Samwell to be the actual ranging-steward.

Re: Game of Thrones -- "Mhysa" -- Season Finale -- 6/9/13

Kinda' agree with this...
Daenerys’s final scene, probably meant to shine a light of hope after the last episode, is problematic. She, the conspicuously white girl, announces all the brown-skinned slaves are free. All right, she tells them it’s their freedom to take, and her army are former slaves, but she’s the one doling out the freedom. As she’s passed around by the terribly trusting and adoring crowd, the race message grows disturbing: Celebrate, brown people! You have your freedom now that I, a foreign white person traveling through the region, has declared it so. Just call me your messiah, and we’re all good!

The former slaves idolize her very quickly and very completely. As commentary on colonialism, slavery, and race it’s terribly problematic—it’s too pat for a season end message of a perfect future. Daenerys isn’t perfect, and she and the slaves are both going to accept this. The scene should be played a bit more like Robb’s season two wedding…it’s a happy moment, but there will be consequences for this act. The untried queen, new to the region and unfamiliar with its customs, will now have to be worthy of all this faith and trust, which may be a problem.

So who was digging with Sam and Wren when Sam found the dragon-glass and told them when you find something hidden you should leave it be? I thought that was Pip with a beard. He was in a few other scenes with Wren and Sam as well.

If it's a problem then blame the writers since slavery in Essos encompasses a myriad of people from different places.

Is it spoiler material? I fastidiously avoid spoilers for this show but enjoy reading speculation.
