Yeah, the first episode had me quite worried in how they seem to have completely rewritten Michael but it begins to pick up from there (at least heading into episode 4).

I'm part of the way through episode 6 (I think), and I think what they've done with Michael was jarring enough maybe they shouldn't have gone there in the first episode. That said, I think what they've done with him was absolutely necessary to the narrative of the season. It's just sort of a jarring way to start.
Alia Shawkat for my money is the cast member that looks least like herself. Pity.

I'm six episodes in, and they're absolutely fantastic. I agree with one of the above posters - we don't need a movie, we need another mini-season like this. It's still as fresh and funny as it was when it left the air...it's like it hasn't missed a beat. A+ from me.

About half way through and S4 has been brilliant! The show with Ron Howard pitching the movie/producer-ship was brilliant. The redux has not been a letdown in any sense, which is pretty high praise given how great the how was.

The one thing that caught me off guard was her ear piercing. But I couldn't tell it was a piercing. I wasn't sure what it was until after staring at it for like 5 minutes.

The stuff with John Beard and Tobias had me dying laughing.
Beard: Hey there's a raccoon on the back porch.
Tobias: Bullshit!

I have had "Go Away Getaway" stuck in my head for 2 days. Watched it all yesterday - loved it but was kind of infuriated that it just ENDS. I want more now! I hope they ditch the movie idea and just do another Netflix season. Going to take my time rewatching it and some of it was wildly uneven (George Sr. eps = zzzzzz) but overall I loved it - especially the Gob and George Michael eps.

2. There's a lot of in-jokes and continuity with story in the new season. So while it's not "necessary" to have seen the previous seasons (the show recaps pertinent events as they come up), it's likely a lot more rewarding experience, and the previous seasons are worth watching on their own.
Having watched all the episodes, here's some of the unanswered questions this season left open:

Man, Jessica Walters is killing it this series. She might be even better here than she was in the first three seasons.

No surprise the 4 funniest episodes were the 2 Gob's and 2 Tobias's.
The Steve Holt stuff was AMAZING. As was the Tony Wonder.
I still don't know what to make of the dark turns the Michael-George Michael relationship took. Although I will say that the way they left everything after episode 15 definitly makes me hope theres more.
After all of the 'putting all the pieces together' narrative the 15 episodes had, was anyone else expecting a bigger payoff? It didn't disappoint me, so much as it surprised me.

Anyone else notice Lucille's prison number was "hello" if you were typing it on an old calculator?

Never noticed, but they've layered this season WITH SO MANY subtle and in side jokes that it will take me a while to take it all in.
