re: Arrested Development (Netflix) -- Season 4 Thread -- 5/26/13
I got a couple of episodes left and its hit its stride. Something was off the first couple of episodes, but once they started meshing everything together with intersecting storylines, it felt good. Recurring themes I've noticed was the not tipping, and the "that was a gimme" line.
Overall, I'm pleased :) |

I wonder if the use of Kristen Wiig and Seth Rogen was one of Netflix's stipulations. I can't imagine any other reason why they were used, when the younger characters had always been played by Walter and Tambor in bad wigs, an approach that was much funnier.

re: Arrested Development (Netflix) -- Season 4 Thread -- 5/26/13
yeaaaaah, Netflix wasn't doing stipulations. They wanted the show. Wiig and Rogen were just another way to get cameos in.

Why was Lucille's trial held at a crab shack? I was assuming it was based upon maritime law, but the joke wasn't explained. |
re: Arrested Development (Netflix) -- Season 4 Thread -- 5/26/13
Man the sex offender gag was disturbing. It really is like a tremendously long movie, loved Isla Fisher.
But yeah, much like Hemlock Grove (and it failed) and House of Cards (it worked), Netflix had no input on the show, they let the producers do as they pleased. The season started out rough and I agree Michael was a bit rough to take on episode 1 but it all made sense in the end, and the show found its groove in the 2nd half. The storytelling is very strong and the characters are far more developed than they were during the first 3 seasons. It could have used some slightly tighter editing but it still works great. |
re: Arrested Development (Netflix) -- Season 4 Thread -- 5/26/13
I finished it up today and will probably watch it again to see all the stuff I missed. I thought the first few episodes were a little shaky, but it got better as it went along and was wishing for more episodes at the end.
I think the one negative was some of the scenes felt like they dragged on a little too long which took away from the humor, but the way all the character's stories weave together is fantastic. The only character episodes I felt fell a little flat were the Lindsey (and maybe the George Sr.) episodes. Maybe I have to watch them again but I thought they were the weakest of the bunch. |
re: Arrested Development (Netflix) -- Season 4 Thread -- 5/26/13
The funny thing about the sex offenders thing is that their best option in places to live away from schools and everything else is probably the same place that they got busted in John Beard's to catch a predator sting.

My favorite was the random button, "Goodbye, Anyong." rotfl
I still wished we had done a thread for each episode. There was a lot to mention for each which would get lost in this MEGA thread. And that way everyone could comment per episode as they got through them. :( |
re: Arrested Development (Netflix) -- Season 4 Thread -- 5/26/13
I finished it and loved it. But one question, was this the first time that they had an actress play Michael's wife Tracy? I don't remember her her popping up in th efirst three seasons.

Also, the statements about you not being able to notice that some of the actors are not together and green screened is total bullshit. I could probably point out every scene like that. Sometimes it does take away from the show as it is distracting, but I understand why they had to do it.

I didn't notice it once. Honestly. I don't know if I am just not that sensitive to it or if I was just so caught up in the excitement of watching the show that my brain just ignored it. But even after I heard about specific scenes, I still can't recall anything obvious and I am not going to bother rewatching just to find the flaws.

I only really noticed it with Winkler's scenes.

talking about green screen, is the scene with all of them together at Lucille apartment real or was that green screen as well, so they never got together at all?

Oh, and another couple of scenes that were hilarious was when Tobias had Carl Weather's getting his arm blown off in Predator in his acting portfolio. I remember the awkward edit then it came back in full the following episode.

MZS finally got around to posting his review of Season 4 perhaps with another write-up to follow at some point.
I think this piece helps capture what was just so ambitious about this season. Review |

re: Arrested Development (Netflix) -- Season 4 Thread -- 5/26/13
Even though it's incredibly easy to watch the new revived season of Arrested Development—seriously, all you need is a Netflix account—-a lot of people still pirated episodes of Arrested Development. In fact, public BitTorrent trackers put it at 175,000 pirated downloads to be exact. This would make sense if most of the pirates came from countries that don't have Netflix but that's not true either. Out of the top 5 countries who pirated Arrested Development, only Australia was a country without Netflix. Are people trying to skimp out on the 8 bucks it costs for Netflix? Or is it just a small minority who can't shake the pirating habit? |

Sigh.
However, it's possible some of the pirates actually have Netflix, but they wanted to put the show on their iPod or something as a downloaded video, instead of as a stream. |
