Black Sails -- Treasure Island Prequel -- Coming to Starz in 2014

Executive Producer and Showrunner is Jonathan Steinberg, who created Human Target.
Michael Bay is a credited Executive Producer since his production company Platinum Dunes produced it.
8 episode series. My guess it will premiere around January 2014 to replace Spartacus.

I have a couple of stuntmen mates working on this show and for the last couple of days they have had to be filmed riding ostriches. They say they are having a blast working on it.

In typical Starz fashion, they just renewed Black Sails for a second season before the show even premieres.
At the top of Starz‘s TCA presentation, the network’s topper Chris Albrecht announced a second-season renewal for the Michael Bay-produced Black Sails ahead of the pirate drama’s January debut. Albrecht said the network brass were already high on the series and had opened the writers room to start working on scripts for a second season when a strong reaction to Black Sails at Comic-Con solidified the renewal decision. “We thought Michael Bay and (showrunner) Jon Steinberg deserved all the time, and an early renewal gives them the opportunity to prepare for the second season and keep the show on a 12-month cycle,” Albrecht said.

I tried to watch the Black Sails trailer, but someone apparently replaced it with a trailer for a shitty Spartacus rip-off with pirates, shaky-cam, and gratuitous lesbian sex.

Back to this show, besides Spartacus, Starz hasn't had a really good track record with original series. Since this is an R rated pirate show, maybe it will break the curse. At least it already got renewed for a second season.
