Synopsis:

'Victory' Spartacus and his outnumbered rebels make one last attempt to win freedom in an epic final battle against the Romans.

Final episode of the series tonight.

1st of all, I have to give huge props to Starz, Steven DeKnight, Andy Whitfield and even Liam McIntyre for making this show. Andy really set the tone for the show when it began. It's too bad he couldn't finish what he started. This had to have been one of the most difficult and physically exhausting shows to produce and I'm glad we got 3 seasons and a prequel series. After Andy Whitfield's death, this show would have been dead on any other network. Casting McIntyre was a gamble, but in the end, I think it paid off. Hope it goes out with a bang.

I've only watched the first 3 episodes so far. Haven't been into this year. To many good characters died last season. But maybe I'll watch the rest this weekend to see what you thought of the finale.

Agreed. But I've pretty much felt that way about the whole season. For the first season, prequel, and part of season 2, it was all good. But somewhere along the line, a switch flipped and it felt like it was a march toward failure and death.

I wasn't ready for the show to end. Maybe flesh out the middle and prequels more. But this is what we want. We want our art to come in, say what it has to say, and leave. We don't want it to hang around and become the guest who won't go home. But why is it always the guest you actually like who decides not to overstay his welcome?

The story would have felt perfect to me if it could have ended in some other way, but that was never a possibility given it's rooted in history. Crassus did give a shoutout to Spartacus in the end in saying that it's unfortunate Spartacus was not born a citizen of Rome so that he could have been by his side. Unfortunately, with the exception of the Roman woman who was branded and coupled with Spartacus, the show doesn't really show any Romans who even entertained the thought, "You know, they're going to long lengths over this... maybe there's something to their goal." It was just, "We're Romans, we're better than you, accept your fate."

It was difficult to enjoy the episode watching the people fighting for freedom die. There was one line in the show I particularly liked. I can't quote it verbatim, but it said something along the lines of even with their death, the Roman empire will crumble, but people will forever remember the cause of freedom and the name of Spartacus. And has been said before... Everyone dies, but not everyone truly lives. Spartacus died. But even though his movement suffered catastrophic losses, it can't be called a complete failure.

Strong ending. Solid all the way around.

The Romans ultimately crushed the rebellion, but it still didn't feel like they were defeated. Crassus was robbed both of the credit for winning the war and the honor of killing Spartacus. Agron and Nasir got their happy ending. Spartacus didn't so much die as become a legend that we're still talking about two thousand years later.

knowing history, I was not surprised that Gannicus died. However, given the ambiguity of Spartacus' death in the true historical record, I was convinced that his fate was going to be left vaguely open-ended. I assumed all of the peripheral players, Lugo, Saxa, Naevia, etc would die. I'm glad Agron and Nasir made it out alive. As soon as Agron demanded to fight in the final battle I thought he was going to be a goner for sure.

Overall a fantastic series, and a good ending.

I don't like prequel stuff, so a Gannicus spinoff would not be preferable, now knowing his ultimate fate within the show. But, who am I kidding, I would still watch.

A Caesar spinoff would be accepted with open arms and swollen cock.

I wonder how the show would have played out had Andy lived. If there would have been any creative differences. I wonder how would they have managed to introduce Gannicus if not given the unfortunate opportunity to have Gods of the Arena?

Oh, and the post credits tribute was touching, classy, and perfect. I have always been impressed on how gracious Liam McIntyre has been about replacing Andy. I'm sure he had no problems whatsoever having the last shown visage of Spartacus be Andy's face and not his own.

As much as I wanted him to live, I agree with the interview I saw that it's hard to believe if Spartacus escaped, he'd just go off and live a life of peace and solitude. The more likely scenario is we'd have heard from him again. Thus, the ending we got seemed correct to me.

It would have been great if the show veered off history. Here what I wanted in this episode:

1. Spartacus killing Crassus, capturing Caesar, defeats Pompeii.
2. He conquers Rome and becomes Emperor to free all slaves.
3. Gannicus and others survive to become generals of Spartacus.
4. Next season, Hannibal or some great threat shows up to sack Rome and Spartacus must defend all Romans and freed slaves from certain death.

I think this show could have another season.

Epic series finale. I thought both Season 2 and this year took a few episodes to get going, but around episode 5 of each, they became great. Even though we roughly knew what had to happen, I loved the way it all played out. I would really like Starz to do something else with this universe - be it a Gannicus prequel (HELL FUCKING YEAH) or a Caesar spin-off. I am in for whatever they decide...but if nothing happens, this was a glorious end.

Fantastic ending... I will miss this series a lot. Liam grew on me all the while I miss Andy, the final product was pretty damn good.

Gannicus was awesome since gods of the arena. They should go with Caeser if they want to continue this universe. I want more... stories from this era. =)

The interesting thing for me is that even though they were antagonists I never really saw Caesar and Crassus as villains, just soldiers defending their homeland. Even still I thought the ending was good but not great. I'm actually cool with Spartacus biting the dust but I did expect Gannicus to make it. Great series though, I'll totally buy a complete set on BluRay.

Now if you wanna see something funny Samuel L Jackson did commentary during the last episode on his Twitter. Even Liam replied it was so funny.

For a minute there, I thought they were going to throw history out the window and have Spartacus win. When Gannicus attacked the rear of the Roman army and took the artillery, I thought that was it. Especially when they pulled back for a long range CGI shot and the numbers looked pretty damned even. Hell, if it had happened that way in real life, Spartacus would have won even if he had smaller numbers. In classical warfare, just about any time any army - including Roman armies - were caught in the rear like that by any size force, they would panic and break.

And I knew Crassus would end up crucifying Kore.

As with most I did think they would change the out come. But in the end I was very happy with it. I was happy with the whole show from start to end. To many good things to say but I will say this. I don't watch Live TV. I wait for the show(s) to end and buy the DVD or Blu (This one I started buying in DVD, it was only $15 for season 1 & 2). I did look forward to Fridays nights.

There is one thing. The ending is what people wanted for QSF to be.

Caught up with this show by watching the final 4 episodes this afternoon. I thought this season stumbled a bit early on, but it sure reconciled that during the final stretch. The last 3 episodes were excellent and the finale was indeed epic. Well done all around. :up:

Sweet Jesus, that girl that played Gannicus' young love is insanely hot.

Not the best season of the 4 but glad it ended on a high note. I thought Gannicus was dead meat for sure but Caesar kept him alive. I don't know the history but would have like Crassus killed by Spartacus.

I guess I don't need to spoilerize this, but Crassus got his in the end. Some twenty years after defeating Spartacus, the Parthians executed him by pouring molten gold down his throat to quench his thirst for gold.

Of course, the gold thing is probably only a legend, but I'll bet they would have used it for the series.

Gannicus is so bad ass that an armada of "questionable women" ran to his aid and lifted him off the cross. He was then fully healed and on a solo Roman-Ninja mission single handedly killed Caesar, Pompeii and Crassus. True story.

I put my name in to request a Ceasar sequel.. it would seem seeing him go from this soldier to the Emperor of Rome over 3-4 seasons would be a hell of a ride....

Very satisfying ending for many reasons.

- Spartacus' faith unknown to Romans and therefore the rest of the world...
- Crixus' bitch getting slaughtered after being a tool all season
- Gannicus dying after all to get back with history
- Agron and Nasir manage to escape, along with Laeta and sibyl, so at least some slaves escape
- Very nice end credits with all important characters

I'd love a Caesar/Crassus spinoff, but leave all slave characters out of it please.

If you rewatch the scene, you'll notice that there are lots of slaves escaping to freedom in the background. Hundreds, if not thousands. Agron, Nasir, and the others are just at the end of the line.

This was a sad ending, although not unexpected. The series was never the same to me after Andy, though no fault of Liam.
