'Doctor Who', S07E06: "The Bells of St. John" 3/30/2013

Synopsis:
Spoiler:
The Doctorís search for Clara Oswald brings him to modern day London, where wifi is everywhere. Humanity lives in a wifi soup. But something dangerous is lurking in the signals, picking off minds and imprisoning them. As Clara becomes the target of this insidious menace, the Doctor races to save her and the world from an ancient enemy.

Apparently the Christmas special doesn't count for the season numbering, so this ends up being episode six.

I liked this one a lot. It felt more comfortable in its own skin than the first half of the season. And Clara is just a delight.

However, I want to punch Moffat in the face every time he has a character say "Doctor who?" on screen. He's already pounded the joke into the ground.

Re: 'Doctor Who', S07E06: "The Bells of St. John" 3/30/2013

I enjoyed the episode more than a lot of the first half of the series. The chemistry between the Doctor and Clara is already there and is fun.

Loved the nod to Amy, and Craig was on one of the screens when Clara first became part of the network.

I really hope that they run with the "I'm going home, see you in the morning" where the Doctor takes her back to the time she left constantly trying to protect her or something. I think it would work really well if done right and would be a different spin on the whole companion idea.

I think Moffat has realized he's run the "Doctor Who?" into the ground as he had the Doctor ask her to repeat it numerous times but I'm sure we're going to get it throughout as the build to the question.

Hope to see more of the Greater Intelligence down the road.

The one question is who was the lady that gave Clara the help number to begin with? I think
Spoiler:
it's obviously River to reintroduce her to the story so she's around for the final episodes, but I'm hoping for some sort of swerve and it being someone else.

Craig was one of the faces in the network?! That must have been a tough time for Stormageddon.

Bells of St. John I laughed when I realized what it was.

Good to see UNIT still in action. Kind of a 'meh' story line for me on this one. Some good setup tough.

The updated theme music kind of had the old-school sound too it.

I was expecting something more exciting to start things off but I liked it. Prequel was good, too.

Is this still needing to be spoiled?
I've seen some speculation that it was Sally Sparrow since she was shown to run a shop at the end of blink. We may never know.

I'm pissed I didn't make the "St. John" connection earlier... wasn't until I heard the phone ring that I knew the "Bells of St. John" was, in fact, the TARDIS phone.

Also curious about who gave Clara the phone number... River would seem to be the obvious suspect...

Sally Sparrow is possible, since "Blink" was a Moffat episode.

it was an interesting comment. Since Sally was not an official companion. I would rather it be her than River. I can not see River working in a shop to help some random future companion of the Doctor.

Was I the only one hoping that Clara would ask if the Doctor was her mummy when she was talking to him on the phone....

How many times has that phone actually rang?

Just saw this episode tonight. Who knew the Tardis had a garage and that the Doctor had a motorcycle? Very good show and now there are three Claras. Who is she? I think this is going to be a banner year for Doctor Who, being the 50th year anniversary.

Excellent episode! I really like Clara. Did anyone else catch that the book that the young boy was reading, Summer Falls, was written by Amelia Williams? :-). It's actually being released this week.

I didn't catch the Amy shout out, but I did catch Craig on the one of the monitors.

I didn't think this was the best episode, but it certainly wasn't bad. I definitely like Clara and her interactions with the Doctor. I need to stop reading interviews with cast members. They all talk everything up like it's the second coming and how brilliant Moffat is. I certainly didn't feel this was James Bond like. And, the guy at the beginning with the warning felt like a huge rip off of the Blink DVD warning.

I thought the lady at the end reverting to four years old was more creepy than anything else in the episode.

Oh, not sure I'll ever be able to refer to that blue box as the TARDIS again. It's now officially the SnogBox.

I agree with all of this.

Hopefully that constant barrage of "Doctor Who?" lines was him getting it out of his system.

I liked the nonchalant nod to Amy with the book, but the line that followed that was something like "Yeah 10 was great, but the end of 11 will make you cry your eyes out" clearly means things are not going to end well for this Doctor.

Caught that as well.

I really hope it's a different character other than River who gave Clara the number. A Sally Sparrow cameo would be nice.

The little alteration to the opening title theme sounded good.

Blah. I like Smith out of the three new Doctors so I was hoping for another Season with him. But with the Finale title not released yet...he's a goner.

I can see him regenerating in the 50th anniversary special, but no way will they do a regeneration before that.

I think they should have him de-generate for the 50th anniversary and then forwards again.

De-generate meaning turn into the 10th Doctor? That won't happen, but Tennant and Billie Piper are confirmed for the 50th, so they'll be there.

Matt Smith is doing the opposite of growing on me. I'm ready for them to move on to a new doctor. Hopefully someone much older. Patrick Stewart would be my dream casting.

Wasn't it just revealed this week that Matt Smith has signed on for the next year?

(From what I understand, Smith won't commit long-term to the series and will only sign up for one year at a time.)

Yes, he's confirmed that he'll be starring in Season 8:
