The Carrie Diaries (The CW) - Series Thread

I guess I'll be the brave one to start the thread on this. Anyone been watching? It's not awful. This past weeks episode revolved around a party for the release of Bret Easton Ellis' "Less Than Zero".

AnnaSophia Robb is very likeable as the lead. To me, it's essentially what the Gossip Girl spinoff prequel would've been had the pilot gotten picked up.

Yeah most people have agreed its better then they were thinking it would be.

Its just still hard to wrap your head around how its impossible to connect it to the HBO show. But they're two completely different entities.

This is an adaptation of the prequel book, not a prequel to the show. That is what people didn't get at first.

My friend and I were talking about the show last night and I mentioned that how no one at DVDTALK has been brave enough to start a thread.

dex14

I'm still watching and enjoy it.

AnnaSophia is awesome on the show.

No I got that right away, but at the same time, you wondered if they were going to at the same build any links going back to the TV series and it was just surprising how you knew right from the first episode there weren't any.

And then you wanted to yell at Darren Star for not taking more from the original book to make a link happen.

Also, you still have to wonder how many SATC fans have ever actually read the book. I did not too long after the show started and I remember wondering who were these people. And then of course just focused on the show.

i haven't watched in awhile, but liked the first few shows i saw. when i am up to date on things i like more, i will certainly catch up on this show. hated SITC show with an unholy passion, but really none of those feelings came up when watching this. maybe an attractive lead, as opposed to Mr. Ed in a fright wig, has something to do with it?

re: The Carrie Diaries (The CW) - Series Thread

Carrie Bradshaw is about to meet an outrageous lifelong friend.

The Carrie Diaries will add the character of Samantha Jones — played by Kim Cattrall in HBO’s Sex and the City — in its recently announced second season.

“I’m really, really excited,” star AnnaSophia Robb told TVLine at The CW’s upfront presentation in New York on Thursday. ”I had to keep it a secret, but I think it’s going to be so much fun. I’m looking forward to seeing where that goes.”

The network previewed that we’ll see the two women, who grow up to delve deep into New York’s eligible bachelor (and in one case, bachelorette) pool, meet; turns out, Samantha is cousin to mean girl Donna LaDonna.

The role has not yet been cast.

Samantha is the ’80s-set prequel series’ second call-out to the stiletto-heeled original: Carrie‘s first season finale name-checked Stanford Blatch (who we know becomes Carrie’s gay bestie) as Bennet’s club-promoter roommate.

All I've seen suggest for Miranda is AnneLyne McCord and I've got to admit that's perfect casting.

re: The Carrie Diaries (The CW) - Series Thread

I feel like... this should be shared...

Young Samantha Jones is ready for her close-up.

Just a few days after casting Lindsey Gort in the Sex and the City prequel, The Carrie Diaries has released the first image of the young actress channeling the role made famous by Kim Cattrall.

“In another nerve-wracking search to create the amazing characters we all came to know and love on Sex and the City, we went out in search this year for a young Samantha Jones," said ep Amy B. Harris. "Lindsey Gort walked into the room and owned the part. Funny and sexy with a whiff of vulnerability and an amazing dash of outrageousness, Lindsey is our exciting choice to play the young Samantha Jones."

The Carrie Diaries, which returns for its sophomore run on Oct. 25, also put out its official character description for the counterpart to young Carrie (AnnaSophia Robb), calling her a "ballsy, beautiful and sexy young woman from the panhandle of Florida who has made her way -- and already a name for herself --- in the rock ’n’ roll scene of 1980s NYC."

She looks like a young Kim Cattrall. Great job by them finding her.

They must really need the ratings if they are now casting a young Samantha now.

Re: The Carrie Diaries (The CW) - Series Thread

For anyone who cares, Season 2 starts tonight. The character of Samantha Jones will be on this season (see post 14).

It's the summer of 1985, and, for the first time, 17-year-old Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb) can call Manhattan home. After her boyfriend Sebastian (Austin Butler) and best friend Maggie (Katie Findlay) betrayed her, Carrie is happy to accept the offer to spend the summer living in the downtown loft apartment of her Interview magazine boss Larissa (Freema Agyeman). But as summer turns to fall and Carrie heads into her senior year, she and her friends and family discover that letting go of old loves and embracing new dreams comes with some tough new realities but also incredible new opportunities. Based on the novels "The Carrie Diaries" and "Summer and the City" by Candace Bushnell, THE CARRIE DIARIES is from Fake Empire in association with Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Amy B. Harris ("Sex and the City," "Gossip Girl"), Josh Schwartz ("Hart of Dixie," "Gossip Girl"), Stephanie Savage ("Hart of Dixie," "Gossip Girl"), Len Goldstein ("Hart of Dixie") and Candace Bushnell.
"Win Some, Lose Some" (TV-PG, DL) (HDTV)

LINDSEY GORT STARS AS THE ICONIC SAMANTHA JONES - After Carrie's (AnnaSophia Robb) boyfriend Sebastian (Austin Butler) and best friend Maggie (Katie Findlay) betrayed her last season, Carrie is determined to make the most of her summer, living with Walt (Brendan Dooling) in Manhattan - and all the grit and glamour it has to offer - even agreeing to a night on the town with Donna LaDonna (Chloe Bridges). But when Donna shows up with Sebastian, Carrie decides to go out on her own, and by a series of surprising events meets one of the greatest loves of her life, Samantha Jones (Lindsey Gort). Back in Castlebury, Mouse (Ellen Wong) shuts out Maggie when she sees her working at the country club, and Dorrit (Stefania Owen) has her own problems to contend with when Tom (Matt Letscher) finds out about her boyfriend Miller (guest star Evan Crooks). RJ Brown also guest stars. Andy Wolk directed the episode written by Amy B. Harris (#201).

It's good weekend fodder.

I've seen most of the original Sex run...and I actually like this show better.

The actress playing Samantha is great. Definitely channeling Cattrall.

I'm not a fan of them trying to insert modern bands into the show. Especially when they need to forcibly say the bands name 5 times.

Re: The Carrie Diaries (The CW) - Series Thread

Anyone still watching this?

They once again did the ol' TV end-around of teenage abortion. Maggie's preggers, wants the abortion, takes some time to think about it, then miscarries (or in this case has an eptopic pregnancy). I know this has happened in at least one or two other shows, although the exact examples escape me at this time. Geez, at least Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Last American Virgin dealt with the topic head-on, and those are both more than 30 years ago!

Although I do like the sideplot concerning Ellen Wong's boobs, and the 80s equivalent of a "selfie"
