This just got picked up for a second season. That's almost enough to make me give up right now instead of finishing this season out.

Renewed for a 2nd season as ^^he just stated. 15 episodes. Will most likely return January 2014. I guess Bacon will only commit to that number.

Why because you envisioned that this was only a 1 season show?

Re: The Following -- "Let Me Go" -- 3/04/13

That was the impression I had when people talked about to Bacon's commitments, like you just reiterated ;)

It's because the show has sucked but I knew the season was already half over so I wanted to see if they had a decent pilot and finale planned even if the rest sucked.

Nobody ever said that Bacon was only committing to this as a 1 season deal. It was just the episode count. When a star signs on to a show like this, it's usually a 5-7 year deal with the studio. Of course that doesn't mean the show will last that long. That's entirely up to the network.

I think FOX really wants their new "24". A midseason serialized show that will run non-stop and this looks like it fits the bill. The ratings have been steady too.

How can this premise continue into another year without being even more ridiculous than it already is?

People said that about 24 and that lasted 8 seasons.

I guess the unknown number of Carroll's followers will be a major part of this show's story arc.

Kevin Williamson isn't a stupid guy. I'm sure he pitched a pretty extensive arc to the network and that's why it got picked up.

This

Was going to finish out the season just because I started it but should cut the cord since it's pretty poorly written. Actually, I never should have started it. All the undeserved hype got me. I watch too much as it is.

First. I will continue watching.

But yeah, they can't keep the same villain for a second season. We need closure this season. Heroes, The Killing, etc. are examples that you really need to finish things in the first season. Some kind of closure.

I don't know, Justified has a nice balance of season-arc villains, but also the overall series antagonist.

dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb. This is rapidly becoming the funniest cop show since the Keystone Kops. Every week I watch thinking the law enforcement can't possibly be more incompetent and inept and every week they top themselves in raw stupidity. Anybody want to take a guess as to what the bodycount will reach in future seasons before they have the FBI director fire everyone involved? or should it be how many seasons? I particularly loved how Joe was able to strangle the attorney with his broken hand and how it apparently never occurred to the attorney to grab the hand and twist. And how Ryan managed to lose his gun - hilarious! And the "Yeah go ahead and torture him because it couldn't possibly fuck up our careers or the case especially with all these witnesses" scene. Just gold! And so nice that Joe gets a new position at Sociopath U at the end of the episode. Funniest show on TV.

Can't say it's getting any better, but I'm determined at this point to see how they wrap up this season. There would have to be significant improvement for me to stick with it beyond that.

I made the joke in another thread that since this was picked up for another season, Carroll would escape at the end of the season. I guess they sped up that plan.

I still don't get why people are this down on how incompetent the police/FBI are, when we saw it for 8 years on 24. It doesn't make any sense to me how that show got a complete pass by most, but this show isn't. I loved 24, but I actually find the concept of this show far more interesting.

The problem is everybody wants to make a serial so people will tune in week after week, but not all stories fit a series-long serial setup, in fact very few can manage that (Lost comes to mind).

I personally prefer season long arcs (ie - 24, Dexter, True Blood, etc; ), make every season self-contained so the season finale feels like a finale. If you have more places you can go after that, great.

Hell even a couple of seasons of Breaking Bad managed to have semi-final finales, ie - season 4 could have ended the series and been satisfactory.

Another so-so episode this week. Cops weren't quite as dumb as last week, but that isn't saying much.

Did he seriously escape?

I gave up on this after last week's nonsense, but figured I'd look at the thread to see what happened. They should have just kept him out of jail the first time - an interesting idea to have him controlling things from jail but it was pretty much untenable (even for these writers who don't care all too much about logic or realism)

I was half tempted to keep watching just to finish it out, but now who knows if they will even resolve this story this season. I'm with Pinata on this - seeing it picked up made the decision easier for me.

For me it seems that the writers aren't even trying. Lazy writing all over the place.

And yes, I will keep watching.

I don't have the complaints other do...for me this was a turning point. Now things are really getting interesting. Are the cops silly, yes. Can you see some of the twists coming from a mile away...yes.

I will note, that it is really apparent how much Kevin Williamson loves 24. Hopefully, they get out of that because there is a fantastic show underneath some of the non-sense.

True on all counts. My favorite was when they spotted him in the mall. Instead of quietly sneaking up the young agent starts YELLING at people to get out of his way, thus alerting Joe and enabling him to escape.

I can't decide how the renewal cuts for me. I can't put my finger on why this just isn't quite doing it for me. I know 24 had it's eye rolling moments (amnesia, cougar, another mole etc.), but it had Jack Bauer and characters I just found more compelling I guess.

I can't put my finger on it as to why I am still watching as the only really strong scene for me was when Ryan was in the house with the followers and getting inside the two guys heads. The other parts are entertaining but leave me wanting something deeper and more "intelligent". Not really saying its dumb but like others have said, LAZY. With the renewel I am in for the long haul unless it just gets way off track. Rather this than the second hour of Biggest Loser : )

That is exactly correct, Fox is planning on this show being the next 24 and remaining on the air for a few seasons.

As for the episode itself, I thought this was probably the worst one of the season, or at least not that entertaining. Though it was creepy when all of Joe's followers were standing around as he walked up to his son.
