How I Met Your Mother - The Ashtray - 2-18-13

Ted gets a weird and surprising call from the Captain, which launches the gang into a series of recollections about the last perplexing encounter they had with him.

I loved it when Marshall said they'd already discussed it, it's $4million cash

As I mentioned in the other thread, I really enjoyed this one. This type of episode of HIMYM reminds me why I still tune in. Very clever and well done

I actually thought that was absolutely horrible. I just feel like every episode they've done this year they've done in the past.....and better.

Agreed. I think I only liked the Robin Sparkle ep and maybe 1 or 2 others this year.

I enjoyed it plenty. Funny how these folks still engage in the occasional sandwich. You'd think they'd be getting too old for that.

That was the lone joke/exchange that worked for me.

It's funny, if they took the single joke that worked in each episode this season and put them together they might have a full episode worth of jokes.

Seemed pretty random to have Lily quit as a kindergarten teacher and now be an art consultant. Sounds like they were looking for a new way to generate new stories.

Who said she was quitting being a teacher?

Is it wrong I really wanted to punch Barney this episode? His whole "I'm the one who's passionate about crazy stories" bit just made me go "Dude you've got a great job and a hot fiancé. Without this, your life has no meaning?"

I agree. Still I'm ready for the show to finish.

I don't want to sound dramatic, but I will literally die when the show ends.

Nope. I got tired of Barney pretty quickly in this episode.

Disagree. The entire episode I felt as if I was watching a piss-poor attempt at remaking a Coupling episode.

But to be fair, this season of HIMYM has made the NBC-produced Coupling look like a work of art.

I still say if they had aired their last episode (the first episode that didn't directly horribly adapt the original scripts) sooner, the show might have stayed on the air.
