Haven't seen this yet, it's on my DVR, but glad to see Gina Torres guest starring. With all the buzz, the Adam Baldwin guest spot created, it makes sense for them to pull in the other players.

Re: Castle -- "Reality Star Struck" -- 2/11/13

It was another good, but not great, lighthearted, "Concept," episode. (This concept being the reality TV thing.)

Unfortunately, Torres and Fillion hardly interact at all. From what I understand Fillion's been filming Percy Jackson at the same time he's doing Castle, so they've lightened his load during that time. He really should have been in the interrogation scene with Torres. That could have been great. Opportunity lost.

Next week it looks like we're back to a serious episode as Alexis gets kidnapped. That seems to be the pattern this year, alternating between the lighthearted episodes and the more serious ones.

So far, though, this has been another good season for Castle.

I don't think it's the Moonlighting curse, but I'm not loving Castle this year as much. A few eps have been good, but I feel like a lot have missed the mark by a wide margin. Did some writers leave, or did Marlow start working on new projects?

Entertaining ep. , but count me as one of the disappointed that they didn't use Torres in a more prominent role. They could have at least had her and Castle standing around the reality show's set making brief conversation.

While I liked the whole "reality TV isn't real at all" aspect, I hate it when the person they know did it always breaks down and confesses everything. They need to end more of these with someone asking for a lawyer, or maybe one where they perp gets away with it setting up a potential revenge ep.

They've done the 3XK pair, where he got away the first time, and probably did the second as well. Is that the kind of thing you mean?

I wonder if in real life most murderers break down and confess, or lawyer up? I have heard that many are caught because they have a strong compulsion to talk, and trip themselves up - apparently killing people isn't great for one's conscience (go figure). Yes, there are the hard gangster types, who probably have a lawyer already, but for the domestic disputes gone wrong, I doubt people are all that hard-hearted.

This was the main reason I stopped watching crime shows for years. I got tired of watching CSI with the resulting conclusion of the suspect being confronted with the evidence at the end of an episode and subsequently confessing to the crime.

I guess I've gotten over it because I do enjoy watching shows like Castle and the Mentalist.

They do over do it. That's why I liked the early years of Law And Order. Sometimes the bad guy even got away with it.

There was a great pair of L&O stories, years apart, where a guy who got away with it the first time was caught the second time. I think it even worked out so that in the end he got away with the second murder, but the second case provided evidence that he was guilty of the first.

Larry Miller played the character.

Isn't that kind of SOP for a weekly procedural?

As far as reality episodes go, I preferred the one with Hilarie Burton.

Castle hasn't been great for me this season, and it's not the post-Moonlighting thing. None of the stories has really grabbed me, I guess.

I don't even watch this show for the cases anymore. I just watch it because the characters on the show have such great chemistry. I care about the personal stuff more than the whodunnit stuff.

Re: Castle -- "Reality Star Struck" -- 2/11/13

Finally saw this last night, Loved the jabs at "reality TV". The V-Day gift in the pocket was a typical Castle-esque moment but those have been sparse this season. Castle seems to be sleepwalking through the cases and doesn't contribute much at all.
