Yep, I think it's being overly-critical of stuff that wouldn't have been given a second thought during Harmon's reign.

Re: Community -- Season Premiere -- "History 101" -- 2/07/13

I don't know how many of you will follow this, but I basically dealt with this same scenario for the last (heartbreakingly disappointing) season of Gilmore Girls. In that abortion it felt like the first half of the season the people in charge had no idea what show they were making. By the time they got the feel for the show, it was halfway to the finale. It's a far lesser show than it could have been over that stupidity (and I still blame all parties for that one).

In this case, the first episode makes me optimistic that the writers at least watched and more than that studied what came before them. They're different people so they can't replicate whatever Harmon would have done. I think they're going to give us a good show that is as consistent with what came before as I could reasonably expect. I get those of you who say that's not good enough. For me, it is because it has to be. It's all we'll get.

This is what makes me so upset about what happened. Harmon I know had his issues, but everything I have ever read suggests he's a guy I'd love to go out drinking with. At one point, I was contrasting what he was saying to what Kurt Sutter was saying and Sutter came off as a complete asshole basically all te time. Funny how that all turned out.

What percentage of the writers are new? Didn't some of the original writers stay?

Re: Community -- Season Premiere -- "History 101" -- 2/07/13

I watched this 2 days ago and for the most part I thought it was entertaining.

However, I can't stand the Dean Pelton stuff. So tired of the running gag that he's a homosexual cross dresser who is in love with Jeff.

I did like the Abed TV stuff. The little bugs to promote the fake shows were fun and I liked Fred Willard as Pierce.

The laugh track was funny and I liked the animated baby versions of all the characters. That was cute.

At this point, I don't think the Dean Pelton is a gay crossdresser in love with Jeff thing is a gag. It's his character.

Thinking back, I don't think this ep was much worse than Anthropology 101 or Biology 101 (the season 2 and 3 premieres). Give them a couple of eps to get their footing again.

I rewatched and ended up liking the episode more than the first time, but I still HATED the cartoon bit. It looked terrible.

I think they should go ahead and do the "Nicholas Cage Appreciation" episode

I was disagreeing with the notion that we are judging the show differently. I think the show largely felt the same but the jokes just fell flat(for me). Not unlike a handful of other Community episodes.

In other words it felt like the same 'ol Community to me regardless of who is in the writers room.

Yeah the cartoon part was cheap, but I can't blame them for using that digital animation with the time and budget. Actual hand drawn stuff would have been great.

Good episode. Not great. I'm just glad to have it back. Had I not known about Harmon I wouldn't have suspected. I would have just thought they were a little off after a long, long vacation and a big cancelation scare.

Why has no one mentioned that Danny Pudi has the skin of a newborn baby?
