They must have filmed this season during Spring or Summer because I noticed the lawn around Southfork was finally green (as opposed to last season when the lawn looked dead and the actors were bundled up in coats). What's with the Christmas lights on Southfork's roof?

Great premiere episodes. Josh Henderson really stepped up to the plate and for the first time, I could believe he was JR's son. Larry Hagman had his JR charm back (which I thought was somewhat missing during the first season) and it was nice to see him back at full steam. Too bad we're only getting a few more episodes with him.

Nice intro with Duffy and Gray. I hope the show can continue without Hagman.

If Cliff only recently learned her had a daughter, that would explain it but it wouldn't explain why she would go to such extremes for a father she barely knew. Did he know about her for years but keep her a secret from Bobby and Christopher? Why would he do that? When the original show ended, Bobby and Cliff were friends, and Cliff had a relationship with his nephew, so it doesn't make sense that he would keep his daughter a secret from them.

The scenes for the rest of the season showed the guy who had Marta Del Sol killed coming back. This is pure speculation: maybe he puts a hit on J.R. and that's how J.R. dies.

I've been curious about all these different relationships, especially since so much time has passed since the original storylines, but I saw this on wikipedia:

"In 1985, Afton gave birth to Cliff's daughter, Pamela "Pammie" Rebecca Cooper, though at first Afton denied the paternity."

Was this part of the original series? I guess this would be around Season 7-8 time? I don't recall this at all, but there haven't been any details about Afton denying paternity so far in Season 16.

Also, keep in mind Christopher and John Ross are cousins by blood, despite Christopher being adopted. That was bothering me during last season when John Ross kept saying that they aren't even family.

J.R. never accepted Ray Krebbs as a Ewing (even though they had the same father), so it's only natural that John Ross wouldn't either, even though Christopher is the son of Sue Ellen's sister.

granted I only have a few episodes of season 1 and 2 from netflix and vague memories of the last few seasons when I was a kid, but JR was a much better villain than john ross.
sure JR was a back stabber and did some really dirty shit but he did it with style. john ross is more of a whiney little cry baby bitch with a little skill at manipulation

Grass stays green in Dallas until around Thanksgiving, but yeah they've been shooting almost since last season ended. I think they were five episodes in when Hagman died in November.

I remember Cliff hired someone to track down Afton, and I think he caught up with her in New Orleans. I remember Afton denying her daughter was Cliff's even though it was obvious to Cliff and viewers she was his daughter because Afton named her after Cliff's sister and mother, who were both fond of Afton. I don't think she ever confirmed to Cliff that her daughter was his on the show, but Cliff finally met his daughter and reunited with Afton in the first reunion movie, J.R. Returns. However, the producers of the new Dallas have gone on record saying they're ignoring the two reunion movies.

Ahh, that vaguely rings a bell. I might have to pull out the DVDs and rewatch some of those episodes.

Also saw where
Spoiler:
Afton
will be appearing this season.

I thought these first 2 episodes were great. It felt much more like 'Dallas' than last season, with the in-office scenes, and I loved that the first thing that John Ross does when going into the Barnes Global office is pour himself a drink - just what JR used to do in the old days.

We can only hope TNT renews it and realizes the mistake they made by airing it in the winter. It should be on during the summer, where there's less competition from the main networks.

Absolutely, I almost can't bear the thought of not having it back for a few years, almost like they'd tease us with it and then take it away again!

Casting spoiler (a "major" star from the 70s!):
Spoiler:
Lee Majors is signed to play an old love interest of Sue Ellen's.

Julie Gonzalo's (Pamela Barnes) facial scar/wrinkle is awfully distracting.

In one two-hour block, John Ross got with a bachelorette and a pregnant woman. Nice.

Anyway, I thought it was a decent two episodes. As was the case last season, Hagman's scenes are by far the best (I'm not sure DALLAS can survive without him...we'll see). Josh Henderson has improved leaps and bounds over last season's work...looks like Larry was able to pass along some good acting advice. The same can't be said of the other younger actors.

Awful casting, I have no idea why they cast an actress that young for the role. She also looked ridiculous, whatever was going on with her hair.

You are so right, this show is going to take a huge hit when the scenes with Hagman run out. Other than him and John Ross, every other character on the show is a two-dimensional caricature.

It was noticeable but not objectionable in season one. The make-up in these two episodes did nothing to hide it and had it looking much, much worse.
