Once Upon a Time -- "In the Name of the Brother" -- 1/20/13

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Synopsis:

"In the Name of the Brother" - Dr. Whale is tasked with mending Hook's wounds and performing surgery on the stranger whose car crashed upon entering Storybrooke. But some of the townspeople fear that the stranger may have seen magic -- which could expose their true identities to the world -- and think that leaving him to die would be the best solution. Meanwhile, as Mr. Gold tries to reunite with a despondent Belle, Cora attempts to reunite with daughter Regina; and in the land that was, Victor desperately wants to prove to his disapproving father that he can, indeed, bring back the dead, on "Once Upon a Time," SUNDAY, JANUARY 20 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Noticed the Star Wars ringtone. So was this the first example of the newly bought Star Wars property making its way onto another Disney owned property?

My wife actually got up to answer my phone, but it was just the TV! First time I have ever heard anyone use that one. I also use Yoda's "Message from the dark side" for text messages. I'm still waiting to hear it.

I really thought there was going to be some big reveal at the end about the new character, like he was a famous literary character or something. The actual ending was somewhat disappointing.

Probably the first usage post purchase. They had Artoo and Threepio on one of the Disney Channel tween shows right before the purchases was made a while back (and it wasn't Anthony Daniels doing the voice).

But yeah, I laughed when the ringtone came up and I went "We know you own it Disney!"

So much for Emma's innate ability to tell when someone is lying. It seemed pretty obvious to me that the outsider was lying about what he saw, but she bought it without question.

I hope it's revealed that Regina is playing her mom. Because it was way too easy for Cora to manipulate her after all these years.

Speaking of Cora, apparently later this season
Spoiler:
we'll get to see her backstory and young Cora will be portrayed by Rose McGowan.

Her "ability" seemingly only functioned during the pilot and quickly diminished. I think the last time she was right about spotting a liar was when dealing with Hansel and Gretel back in season 1.

But...but...she's magic! MAGIC!!!

What really bugged me about this episode was the writers went out of their way to point out that Frankenstein wasn't in "The Book", which probably means the writers are running out of ideas and can throw anything they want at OUAT. Watch for Mickey Mouse to make an appearance in Storybrooke soon...

I noticed that too. It felt really forced.

Given the ringtone, I expect a hermit named Ben Kenobi making an appearance at some point. Or a farmer named Luke who manages the Storybrooke Dairy.

To be fair to OUAT, limiting a season-long fantasy show to Disney's fairytales would have proved awfully restricting after a couple of seasons. You know how it could blow people's minds? Introduce one of the characters from Lost, like Kate or Sawyer.

Maybe the Volkswagon is Herbie and will start driving itself.

My favorite Rumpy quote from the episode:

"We have a bit of a history together, so know this: If any harm comes to Belle while I'm gone, I'm killing all of you."

I like that the FRANKENSTIEN scenes are in Black & White.

More like blue & white but, yeah, it's a nice touch.

Yeah but there are other public domain fairy tales they could hit up before that would happen.

They already have: Red Riding Hood, Rumpelstiltskin, Hansel and Gretel. As long as this doesn't become "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" with the literally characters I'm fine with it. I doubt they push the sci fi beyond Frankenstien.

Since they have Frankenstein, I could see Dracula showing up.

I am suprised that none of you picked up Dr. Whales' name who directed Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein? James Whale.
