Wayward Pines (FOX) premieres 5/14/15 - S: Dillon, Howard, Gugino - Season 1 Thread

Interesting to see where both of these projects lead

Fox is going into business with M. Night Shyamalan and Bruce C. McKenna as it eyes an entry into the longform arena in 2014.

The network announced Tuesday at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour that it is developing limited series Wayward Pines, from Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense) and Blood Brothers, from McKenna (Band of Brothers) with an eye on debuting at least one of the projects in 2014.

“With top-notch auspices and feature-quality production plans, Wayward Pines and Blood Brothers represent exactly the kind of high-impact, 10- to 12-part events we set out to develop when we entered the limited series business,” said Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “These two series are the first of many big ideas, big names and big talent that you can anticipate will be on our air in the next 12-24 months.”

Cool. Now we get to see M. Night fail on a smaller platform.

Re: M Night Shyamalan and Bruce McKenna developing longform dramas for Fox

So are these intended to be limited run 10-12 episode series? I was about to wonder how Shyamalan was going to work a last-minute "twist" into an ongoing series, but if it only lasts 12 episodes I could see him doing it.

Here's a synopsis for the book Wayward Pines is based on:
http://www.joblo.com/horror-movies/n...-pines-for-fox
Secret service agent Ethan Burke arrives in Wayward Pines, Idaho, with a clear mission: locate and recover two federal agents who went missing in the bucolic town one month earlier. But within minutes of his arrival, Ethan is involved in a violent accident. He comes to in a hospital, with no ID, no cell phone, and no briefcase. The medical staff seems friendly enough, but something feels…off.

As the days pass, Ethan’s investigation into the disappearance of his colleagues turns up more questions than answers. Why can’t he get any phone calls through to his wife and son in the outside world? Why doesn’t anyone believe he is who he says he is? And what is the purpose of the electrified fences surrounding the town? Are they meant to keep the residents in? Or something else out? Each step closer to the truth takes Ethan further from the world he thought he knew, from the man he thought he was, until he must face a horrifying fact—he may never get out of Wayward Pines alive.

Re: M Night Shyamalan and Bruce McKenna developing longform dramas for Fox

It's cool to see FOX developing some limited run series. I wish more networks would go into business with Producers doing that with a short story arc planned with a clear resolution at the finish. Harper's Island, even though it wasn't a critical or ratings favorite, accomplished that when it aired.

However, as with any series, a script still has to be written and a Pilot has to be shot before the network will actually greenlight these, so I'm cautiously optimistic about these projects.

I love the concept of limited run series. We'll see how the execution works out.

M. Night rips off Twin Peaks. Don't understand why they just don't try to get David Lynch.

So Twin Peaks meets Silent Hill, the plot twist is that this occurs 3 years after the events of Empire Season 1.

So, to windward pines?

Seriously though, completely unbelievable. No way would an Idaho town have a black sheriff.

It's more the author of the Wayward Pines books who is inspired by Twin Peaks. Blake Crouch said early on that Twin Peaks was an inspiration for him writing the books, but they are some differences and other twists.

I read the books last month, I enjoyed the first two, but didn't care for the last book that much. I'm curious to see how the limited series adaptation will turn out. From watching the trailer, there are already some slight character changes.

Trailer looks pretty good but I don't get how M. Night still gets work. I'll wait for reviews.

That's how I felt. The ending kind of ruined the entire series for me. Knowing the ending makes me not want to watch the show.

Interesting thing to mention, Terrence Howard, who is currently on Empire, is also on this show. I assume he shot this show before he committed to Empire.

Little odd having the same actor portray 2 different characters on 2 separate TV series as a series regular on the same network.

They're still going to try to release this, even with Twin Peaks coming back? Lynch is going to school M Night.

I still want to watch the show mostly because it is a limited series and I do wonder if things will changed a bit and maybe the ending might be changed.

I just watched it. I liked it, and would have liked it more if I hadn't read the books and already knew the twist. One thing I'm unsure of, are these 10 episodes covering the trilogy or just the first book? It felt like the first episode covered too much of first book to stretch the rest out over 9 more episodes.

I watched it awhile ago. I also liked it and I do like a couple of changes done to a few characters from the books.

I'm also wondering if all ten episodes will cover the trilogy. I have looked at certain cast members' IMDB episode listings for the show and it's hard to tell on their status in regards to the characters from the book that they are playing.
