Updated thread title.
I thought "There are no crickets in Wayward Pines" was very similar to "The owls are not what they seem" from Twin Peaks. Not sure if it was an homage or just a rip-off.
Interesting there are so many stars in this. Haven't seen Matt Dillon in a while and I like seeing him on TV.

Watched it.
Don't know if I'll stick around. Seemed really pedestrian. Trying too hard to be "weird" by people who don't have the ability to pull it off. Like someone heard about Lost and Twin Peaks and The Prisoner, and then tried to make a knock-off without having actually watched the source material they were riffing on.

I watched the first episode on Amazon Instant Video a couple of weeks ago. I have my DVR set to record the rest of the episodes. I want to see what else is changed from the books and if the book ending is changed. I also want to see how certain subplots are carried out in the show. Some of the promos gave good hints to the creepiness of certain things in the books.

It kind of reminded me of a show from a few summers ago - I forget the name. I think it was on Fox? It was about a group of strangers who were kidnapped and all put down in this empty town and they can't get out. I think there was a force field around it. Does anyone else remember what I am talking about?

Wow, Persons Unknown was 5 years ago already.
I remember them promoting it as "One Season, Full Story" and then ending it ambiguously with hope for a 2nd season or something.

Damnit I forgot to record this. Anyone know if they are re-airing the pilot? I don't have Amazon TV or any of that bullshit.

I also remember Persons Unknown. I went in watching it thinking it would be like Harper's Island and then the ending took away from the "one season full story" thing. I also remember Persons Unknown being promoted as a longer version of Identity.

Was it promoted as a longer version of Identity? I didn't get that vibe at all while watching any of it. And I'm a fan of Identity

I forgot about this and turned it on halfway through, but couldn't follow it. It might be interesting, but I think I'll wait until it's done. If it's any good I'll binge it.

Then the rest if the season is them dealing with the outcome.

I wonder after so many bombs how M. Night Shyamalan still gets top notch actors for his projects?

Not bad. I like quirky mystery dramas like this. It sort of reminded me of The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits and also Persons Unknown. That wall at the end was a cool development.
I read this show was filmed 2 years ago and this is pretty much a 1 and done show. Most of the cast, especially Juliette Lewis and Terrence Howard, have already moved on to other shows.
Melissa Leo was pretty good as the creepy nurse. I got a Stepford Wives feel from Gugino's character acting all perfect and then showing that it was all an act.
It's only 9 more weeks. I'll see how this plays out.

Me? I was going to watch this after I saw it was OnDemand weeks early as a preview. Two days after that advert, and I saw the first episode on my OnDemand... poof! It was gone! Seemed a damn clear indication that the reception was *so* awful they decided it better just to pull the preview rather than face negative reactions spreading.

Considering this was filmed two years ago...? Which, I believe, makes it before his After Earth... disaster? I think it's pretty damn safe to say he ain't gonna continue getting top notch talent, not when anything he merely touches seems to end disastrously. (Although I must admit, Devil was a darn fine film for what it was. Given everything since has been back to normal M. Night-mare quality, I have to wonder how much a part he played in writing the film/creating the concept.)

Did anyone watch episode 2 last night? I was kind of intrigued by the first episode but I just found episode 2 to be pretty dull. Not really enjoying any of the characters or even the story. I think I am out.

I think this is a show I'll have to marathon at some point, it's intriguing enough but not enough so to sustain my interest week to week.

I liked the first two episodes for what they were. Fox definitely intended this as their weird summer show and an answer to Under The Dome.
I have to believe everyone in the town is in on it except Matt Dillon, including Juliette Lewis' character. I am surprised there isn't more discussion about it. The shocking death at the end of episode two seems like a ruse.
The only thing annoying so far are the wife and kid in Seattle. They haven't done a great job of laying out their backstory enough to care about them.
