Kroll Show (Ruxin from The League)
 

There is a free preview of Nick Kroll new show on iTunes.

Its basically a skit comedy show with a couple of the skits recurring throughout the show. There were a couple of funny moments but one of the recurring skits really killed it for me. Kroll makes on hideously disgusting woman and he was dressed as one for half the show. He'd have made a bad Kid In The Hall.

Maybe you guys will like it more than I though.

I've seen Kroll's stand up. His actual stand up material is funny, but his skits were fucking awful.

It looked like a sketches from the mind of Dee from It's Always Sunny in Philly. Not the actress, the character.

He's the least funny actor & character in the League, so it'll be no surprise this sucks.

He may not be the best actor, but I think his character is hilarious. Maybe Taco and Raffi are funnier at times, but only in small doses. I think the problem might be that he is perfect for the dry, sarcastic, and mildly evil Ruxin but not so much beyond that.

Threadjack to discuss other work done by "The League" guys...if you're a podcast listener, highly recommend "How Did This Get Made?" with Paul Scheer (Andre) and Jason Mantzoukas (Rafi), plus Scheer's wife.

I liked the Wheels stuff and the random mix tape, but the annoying blonde girl was awful and Sex in the City for Dudes is a great idea that literally goes nowhere and has no relevance to it's title and subject matter, AT ALL. horrible.

I didn't make it past the first commercial break, and I think he's really funny on The League. Remember, most networks will pick the funniest episodes to air first for a new comedy show.

I just found this last night, and will download some of them, but do you need to watch the movie when you are listening to the podcast, or just have seen it recently? Some of the podcasts seem long so I thought it might be a synched up type of thing...

No they don't unfortunately, most networks air the pilot first regardless of quality. It's one reason why so many people tuned out of New Girl and Mindy Project right off the bat.

I like Kroll and think that The League is a great show. But this was like Kroll's standup/skit special. The characters are very aggravating and unredeemable, and there's too much else on TV to be watching this.

I'll check in while channel surfing. Maybe it will get better.

The show felt like a practical joke on the audience. Like it was intentionally over the top bad.

For a sketch show they definitely will air what they believe is the funniest material first. It's funny you mention Fox shows, as their executives will air comedies out of order all the time in hopes of building the audience. Much of the first season of New Girl was aired out of order, in which Fox's executives aired what they thought were the funniest ones for sweeps.

As someone else said, you definitely don't need to see the movies to enjoy the shows, and no, they're not synced. But my recommendation would be for you to start off with a couple episodes of movies you have seen, so you can get a better appreciation of their style without getting lost in the plot details they're discussing. If you're searching on itunes, you should be able to find some familiar movies. Afterwards, go back and listen to them as they come out. I just listened to the one on Reindeer Games, which I hadn't seen somehow, and holy shit it was hilarious.

Forgot to also mention that they bring in a guest for each show, with some pretty big names.

So for some reason I gave this (Kroll Show) another shot after the awful pilot. Now granted, it had nowhere to go but up, but the second episode was drastically better than the pilot. I'll stop short of calling it good, but at least I didn't want my 22 minutes back after it was over. There were actually some laughs.

Not really. They discuss what must of been going through the minds of the creators/actors. Sometimes they get the someone associated with the movie to explain themselves

This show is horrendous, but the third season premiered the other day. They're touting it as "The Final Season." Only 3 seasons in? What is Kroll going to do once this ends since The League only has one season left?

After they wrapped the season, he decided that the show was at a good end point.

I'm sure he'll be all right.
