Re: Cheers Viewing Club: Season 1 Discussion

Just burned through eps 6-11 today.

Some of the them weren't great, but had enough character and laughs to make them watchable.

People were talking about Norm's accent earlier. In one of these episodes, Cliff had a really weird accent.

No Contest

Interesting cold open with Tip O'Neill. Not too many shows that would book a politician in a guest spot. I don't know much about him(died when I was still in HS) but it looks like he died in Boston. He was 71 when he appeared on Cheers. I don't think he looked that old at all.

Loved the scene where Sam was giving Diane advice on her looks for the competition. With her dress off the shoulders she looked pretty good. Got a good laugh at her her pulling her dress off her shoulders and looking over to the waitress in the made outfit with her boobs practically falling out.

Re: Cheers Viewing Club: Season 1 Discussion

Just finished Season 1. Not bad, pretty much as I remembered it and I remembered scenes from the last episode such as the two older ladies upping their drink orders and the final scene where they fought, then kissed. I only watched through the first three or four seasons on a relatively regular basis in the '80s, the remainder of the series will be mostly new to me.

Meanwhile I'm also watching Scrubs (in Season 2 now), and 24 (re-watching Season 1 now, 2 through 8 will be new for me).

Pick a Con...Any Con

Great Harry centric episode. Watched last night, so I can't remember specific jokes, but the stretch where Sam is discussing bringing Harry in with the guys was amazing. Setup. Punchline. Setup. Punchline. Setup. Punchline. Setup. Punchline. Fantastic scene.

The the classic "I can drink this without moving x" bit with Cliff was hysterical. It really looked like Wendt was really cracking up.

I also loved the twist at the end. However, how did Harry leave the bar and re-enter from the back room? Probably not a question we're supposed to ask.

Someone Single, Someone Blue

The jokes were flying pretty fast in this one until Diane's mom showed up to present sitcom plot cliche #28. Force two characters into marriage, hilarity ensues. Sam checking out the dame during their vows was kinda funny.

So I thought that was Paul in the beginning, but they called him Glen. Odd since in the previous episode they referred to the skinny guy with curly hair as Paul.

Well, it's the last day of the month, so is season 2 starting tomorrow?

Re: Cheers Viewing Club: Season 1 Discussion

Finished season 1! I've been able to Amazon-stream episodes at work because I can listen and occasionally watch--except for the con sequences I had to keep rewinding to catch the trick.

Funny how the series got 22 episodes right out of the gate (not sure if that was common back then) and how good it was. Some of the main stories were a little meh but there was quality in every episode.

I'd like to continue watching because I enjoyed it, but not sure I'll have the right incentive without getting challenge "credit." It's giving me the hankering to revisit Frasier as well, though.

Yeah I'm sorry I haven't seen the last 12 yet, but I will get to it with a week or two. I don't think there is enough interest to start S2 just yet, but I could be wrong.

Re: Cheers Viewing Club: Season 1 Discussion

I actually finished season one last week just never posted my thoughts. Really liked Season 1. Some really good episodes throughout with a few okay episodes. Only one i didn't like at all was the two part season finale. Everything was telegraphed from the start. Also i always assumed Sam and Diane wouldn't kiss till season 3 or 4.

Power Play: Good episode, nice to see a scene set outside of the bar (Diane's apartment).

Little Sister, Don't Cha: I don't like the Carla character so I didn't care for this episode. But it was nice to see the bonding between Norm and Cliff.

Pick a Con, Any Con

"Bout 8 grand"

"I just had the 2nd worst idea I've ever had."

Don't show fear....he smells fear.

5 bucks for the booze Cliff-o

I wanted to see her try and make vodka. lol

Coach - "so where do I come in" :lol"

One of my favorite episodes of the series no doubt.

Someone Single, Someone Blue

I liked the cold open with Paul getting a small role.

"now begging for one"

"just yesterday I sat next to a guy for 11 hours"

"you're almost as handsome as Diane said you think you are"

Loved Coach's story about the other wedding in the bar.

Loved the ending with Boggs.

Showdown Part 1 and 2

Have always enjoyed this 2 parter season finale.

Ok, found it. I forget which post I made in this thread, but the Part 2 cold open is from another episode this season! Did anyone else notice it?

Coach and Cliff going back and forth

The two old broads going back and forth about their drinks.

The best was Diane and Sam going back and forth in the office.

Very happy with the first season. I agree it's hard to keep up with this every month, maybe a break here and there, but maybe it's just me.

Re: Cheers Viewing Club: Season 1 Discussion

Is anybody still watching Cheers? I just finished Season 2 Episode 15.

The funny thing about this episode was that Sam pulled out a portable TV to watch sports on. I believe that it was this model:

Maybe a seven inch screen and probably in black in white? Then the three of them (Sam, Diane, and Coach) were sitting on the couch watching a movie on this thing. Crazy times.

Re: Cheers Viewing Club: Season 1 Discussion

I have started Season 3.

Season 2 ended and Season 3 started with a bang, great episodes including the first appearance of Frasier.
