Weird? Maybe, but who wouldn't like something like this?

I display TV on a couple of spare computer monitors when I watch the Olympics but other than that, I only watch one TV at a time.

Re: Is it the norm to have more than one TV in the living room?

A year after college my friend was living in a house with about 5 other people. They had two TV's up in the living room. One for sports/video games and the other for everything else. It was fun at the time but now the idea just seems stupid to me.

Re: Is it the norm to have more than one TV in the living room?

I think the answer is pretty clearly, "no, it's not the norm."

In college, I remember lots of houses and shared living spaces with a couple TVs in the living room. And in my first apartment... I had, at one point, 3 TVs in my bedroom. Used one for PS2/SNES, one for NES/Genesis and one for TV. It was really stupid. But the free TVs flowed like wine. Free college wine, back then.

Me.

TV is too high. Kind of like those whose wife makes them put the flat screen over the fireplace to reduce the "clutter."

We did this in our college apartment. For the aforementioned video games/sports simultaneous viewing.

That said...we were four guys in a college apartment. Needless to say, none of us do this now as married 30-somethings living in the suburbs.

From "Zen and the Art of Cab Driving", a 1981 episode of Taxi, where Jim works extra hard to earn money to buy several televisions. He watches the Delaware legislature debate what they should call themselves: Delawarians or Delawarites. ("Delaweenies didn't stand a chance.")

Jeff Foxworthy noted, "If your working TV sits on top of your non-working TV... you might be a redneck." But yeah, it does make a good stand.

There are practical considerations for having more than one TV in the living room. As noted, spouses/significant others with different tastes. And how about comparisons? What's been edited out of those syndicated Simpsons episodes? Where are the new special effects in the remastered Star Trek? Is that movie edited for time or time compressed ... or both?

With Trevor I can understand it. The only way you'll ever get to all your DVD's is to start watching two or three at a time.

My in-laws kept the old TV hooked up to the VCR when they got their new flat screen a couple years ago. The logic at the time was the grandchildren could watch their movies without messing with the new TV. A) that's just stupid. The new TV isn't that fragile. B) Looks like redneck central.

If you're lloking far an answer to that question, it would seem as though it's not unheard of but not normal or common by any means

I have had 2 TVs in my living room for years. A must for a sports fan. Plus my main TV has twin view PAP. I will bring in a 3rd TV for the first weekend of March Madness. Who gives a shit if it is normal?

Re: Is it the norm to have more than one TV in the living room?

Not 2 TVs, but many people have computer monitors and TVs in the same room. And these days computers serve many of the same functions as a TV.

I have a 27" 1080p HDMI monitor in the same room as my 40" 1080p TV. Using my HDMI splitter/switch and receiver, I can put any of my devices on either screen. Usually my TV is used for cable and DVD/Blu-ray viewing, while the monitor is used for the PC and PS3.

It might not be the norm, but it works well for me.

It's missing the bar. Just doesn't look right without a bar in front of the wall of TVs.

I say not normal. I have one TV in my house and I'm not sure why you'd need more than that.

Re: Is it the norm to have more than one TV in the living room?

My friend and his roommate have 2 TVs in their living room. 1 is strictly for video gaming (with the sound through wireless headsets) and, the other is for cable/movie watching.

Other then that, I have never seen another household with more then 1 TV in their living room.

Would you care to expand on that opinion?

We have a tv in almost every room except for the living room. we aren't in there much so no need for it.

That having something like seven televisions in the sole communal living space of an apartment is a little sad? Aside from the whole NFL obsession, it seemed like these people had nothing else going on in their lives.

Sounds great to me.

If they were watching soccer, your tune would be different I'm sure.

Re: Is it the norm to have more than one TV in the living room?

I think it may be more common than you might think.

Especially for people who watch football, American or other.

I don't see the problem or why anyone would judge someone for having a bunch of tv's in one room.

I think people who do that probably have some sort of viewing event for more than themselves on Sundays.

It really wouldn't. If I wanted to see that many games at one time I'd go to a bar.

That's the whole point. I'd spend a lot more money at a bar than I would at home.

No it's not the norm, but it's definitely the right thing to do. Ideally I'd have (and one day will have) three in the same room. It doesn't have to be the living room but whatever.

I have actually done the "research" as to how many days I would actually want to view multiple games over the course of a year. It's easily worth it.

Yeah, if you live in a condo or apartment, you pretty much have only 1 choice for a multi-TV room: the living room.

If I lived in a house, sure, I'd do the mancave thing and have a 'normal' living room.
