Not sure how much it affected this decision, but I have concrete info that the cast wasn't too fond of Mazzara because he found out that killing main cast = big ratings, and some of his scripting ideas were shocking them.
Oh yea, expect 3 more major deaths before the season is over, too.

I would support promoting him instead of hiring someone from the outside. He's a co-executive producer and has written a good number of episodes. He also worked on Rescue Me as a writer/producer.

Another horrible move by AMC, as Glen had turned The Walking Dead into an actually compelling show and not coasting off the sheer appeal of the zombie apocalypse. Please, this move was nothing more than about money. Glen will get better offers from other networks now to be a showrunner. AMC is notoriously cheap to their talent unless it's Mad Men.
AMC, the dumbest and luckiest network executives in the business.

Darabont leaving was the best thing to happen to the show. His pacing was too slow, and he was going to veer from the storylines even further.

Maybe my prayers that this show will wither and die have been heard, if only slightly.

They're going to have to promote from within, AMC is quickly becoming the diseased whore that no one wants to sleep with. Unless your name is Veena Sud, they despise you.

Shawn Ryan is under contract with Sony Pictures. He's writing and producing the Beverly Hills Cop Pilot for CBS. Ryan today criticized AMC on his Twitter feed. Unlikely he will ever want to do business with them.
Tim Minear is Executive Producer and writer for American Horror Story.
Tim Kring is show runner for Touch on Fox.
Ron Moore is also under contract at Sony. He's developing a Pilot for next season.
Not too many known genre writers/show runners floating around right now.

I think the improvement of the show comes down to the quality of the writing being drastically better. More so than anything Darabount was or wasnt doing. For all the credit Mazzara is getting for Season 3 he was also at the helm for Season 2 which certainly wasnt as good as the 1st season.

You know who would be good for this show. Josh Friedman who did Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Was teasing since your reaction seemed extreme.
But in all seriousness (and despite your reluctance to elaborate on your distaste for Kirkman), is your ire towards him because of the lawsuit that was placed against him when the show was made? I read he was accused of trying to keep one of the comic creators out of getting royalties from the show (or something to that effect).

Though I certainly realize some characters are going to die I didn't need a specific head count and know their major. I was expecting to read about behind the scenes drama. Oh, well, sounds like the show is going to go to crap so it doesn't matter anyway.
