I know you can only do so much in going from a book to adaptation, but he seemed to go zero to crazy much too quickly

At least in the pilot there was gore and a sex scene, network rated of course. So it depends.

Being American I would probably watch it with my 13 year old daughter if that's all the sex they will show.

If I recall correctly, from the book, Junior
Spoiler:
immediately kills his girlfriend and hides her body in the kitchen closet. So I'm more surprised that she's still alive (assuming she is because I only watched 1/2 of the show last night)

FYI,

The Pilot will re-air Sunday at 9pm in case you missed it and don't have Amazon Prime.

Really solid ratings for a summer drama (3.2 demo, 13.14m viewers).

So... why is Samantha Mathis uncredited in this?

I saw her name in the credits.

And she still looks mighty fine to me.

Yeah, Mathis was a "guest star" or something like that.

There certainly isn't anything worse than a pg-13 movie. There was a "just finishing" sex scene, if that would make you/her uncomfortable, but nothing graphic.

as for the show running for a few season, I guess if they can turn Prison Break into a show that doesn't even have them in a prison anymore then you can work a dome city into a few seasons.

and much like how I called Prison Break just throwing them back into some dump water prison, you can also "dome" some other city if they really have too... would be pretty funny if every CBS show had a dome ep next season, that's not going to happen of course but would be interesting..

Re: Stephen King's Under The Dome - Spielberg Produced - CBS

As I was reading the book, one of my predictions about the ending was that the dome would inexplicably disappear only to land on some other city. It would be somewhat funny if every season of the show involved some other town getting "domed" (though that would also get old really quickly.)

If this show can keep in the mid-2s in demos, I am sure CBS would be very happy especially for a 10pm show which went up against Hockey.
It takes a lot of money and promotion to launch any show so I can understand why networks want to squeeze every bit of a hit they can and not have it end when it can keep going. Most new shows fail but when one is a hit, you want to be able to keep it going for the syndication/DVD sales, etc.

My question is ... can the people dig below the ground to tunnel outside the dome?
I wouldn't mind seeing this in a cold weather location if it gets another season/location.

In the book...

Spoiler:
The "dome" is actually a sphere, so the town is completely encased. No Simpsons escape for you!

Not sure if you want to read the spoiler below but the writer said they would answer that in episode 2.

I should have know that since this is on CBS, Junior wouldn't
Spoiler:
kill the girl (he actually kills TWO girls in the book) and have sex with their corpses. :) My guess is he won't kill anyone

Don't like the changes to Barbie...the new twist about the husband of the reporter (who was single in the book) seems lame.

They changed the Christian radio station to a rock station for no apparent reason.

The two kids that had seizures
Spoiler:
I don't remember that happening in the book UNLESS they had contact with the alien device operating the dome...am I remembering wrong?

I don't remember Alisha Hinds character (or her two kids) from the novel at all...am I just forgetting them?

I DID like Dean Norris...good casting there. I liked that when we first saw him he was reading a Churchill book. :)

Still not sure about this series...it doesn't look like it's going to have either the body count or the dark sense of humor the novel did.

Presumably so they can use the radio station the way they always use radio stations in hour-longs: Hip DJs commenting obliquely on the action; dialog-free song montages to extend the runtime while still feeling like they're adding depth.
