Top Chef: Seattle - Season 10 Thread - Premieres 11/07/12 (Bravo)
Season Premiere
Wed, Nov 7
10/9c
Top Chef: Seattle, the tenth season of the Emmy and James Beard Award-winning series, premieres on Wednesday, November 7th at 10/9c. Famed chef and restaurant mogul Wolfgang Puck joins as a judge this season, alongside Tom Colicchio, Gail Simmons, Hugh Acheson, and Emeril Lagasse, with Padma Lakshmi returning as host, as 21 cheftestants compete for the “Top Chef” crown.
"Top Chef" offers a fascinating window into the competitive, pressure-filled environment of world-class cookery and the restaurant business at the highest level. The series features aspiring chefs who compete for their shot at culinary stardom and the chance to earn the title of “Top Chef."
Each episode holds two challenges for the chefs. The first is a Quickfire test of their basic abilities and the second is a more involved elimination challenge designed to test the versatility and inventiveness of the chefs as they take on unique culinary trials such as working with unusual and exotic foods or catering for a range of demanding clients. The challenges not only test their skills in the kitchen, but also uncover if they have the customer service, management and teamwork abilities required of a Top Chef. The competing chefs live and breathe the high-pressure lifestyle that comes with being a master chef and each week someone is asked to "pack up their knives" and go home.

Thanks, didn't realize this was coming up!
I gave up on Life After Top Chef and the Next Iron Chef is an OK alternative, but I almost always like this.

Most of the people in this forum have been really unhappy with the last 2-3 seasons of Top Chef. The new EW says this is actually a really interesting cast of characters this season.

Go figure that David in Seattle would start this thread.

I'm looking forward to this starting. The Life After Top Chef show has been pretty terrible.

Well, I have been watching Life After Top Chef so I've seen ads for the new season. That show is OK but not a watching priority, and I thought about making a thread for it but figured it wasn't worth it. I like Jen Carroll so I'm sorry to see her having a tough time, at least through the three episodes I've watched. My kid got a kick out of Fabio's mom.

I get why they do the start like this, but I don't love it. It seems like filler.
My favourite start was the one in NY I think, where they had everyone compete in various prep contests to lose 1 person.
Look forward to the real 1st ep next week.
I like Acheson as a judge, not sure about Emeril though. And Wolfgang - meh.

Way too early to have an informed opinion on any of the contestants yet.
I appreciate them trying something different to start the season off, but yeah it did feel like a filler episode. The actual premiere of the season is next week with them actually in Seattle.
Personally I think Wolfgang is overrated and I see him way too much. He's also been on Food Network Star a few times in addition to Top Chef. Emeril and Acheson are alright. At least I can understand these guys unlike someone like Eric Ripert, who I need subtitles to understand Judges table is going to be a little crowded.
I don't remember her name since she's off the show now, but I at the blonde girl who tried to brush off rumors that she and Kristen were Lesbian lovers since they are neighbors and have matching tattoos.
Here's Kristen if you don't know the names yet:

Wolfgang wasn't good. He did a bad job of making it clear why he chose anyone, and his omelet looked awful. I bet all the losers from the other chefs wish they would have been in his group.
Acheson is still extremely bad on camera, I'm sure he's a great chef and his judging is fine, but he has a horrible voice and look.

Yeah, one group makes soup and the other does a full meal service
I'm sure there was some planning in how many people could get through but it would have been a lot more interesting if, say, one group all went through and one was almost completely rejected.

Decent episode last night, definitely a nice little twist after the quickfire. Biggest advantage I saw there is that the returning chefs got a idea of what the others are actually capable of doing. All I know is that one chef that cut herself is so freaking annoying, the sooner she is gone the better please.

Cooking seemed pretty good, it will be nice to move away from the team challenge as a few people got by without doing much, it seemed.

IS it me or is there way more of them sitting around in the house talking this season?
I typically FF through that stuff.

Everyone hates him, but I kind of like old man John. Kristin and one of the other girls (Brooke maybe?) seem like the front-runners, though.
Pretty fun to see them shopping at our neighborhood grocery store, Central Market. It is more high-end than Safeway etc. around here.
