Re: Why no blu release for...
It's not going to change, HD versions of most TV programming will be confined to streaming and downloadable purchases. The cost structure of releasing television material on DVD sets the bar much lower to meet projected sales estimates than Blu-ray.

You hear people say streaming costs the studios less, because they don't have anything to produce. No discs, no packaging, no work, no people to pay. Yet, it's $39.99 for season 1 of New Girl in HD, which is not even going to be 1080p. It wouldn't even have been that expensive release week at BB and/or Amazon. I've got Girls pre-ordered on blu for $29.99. HBO tends to charge more which cancels out the fact there are fewer episodes, so maybe that helps them make a profit, but the Girls set is supposedly loaded with special features and I'm not convinced at all that it will sell more than New Girl would have. If they actually passed on the savings, as much as I feel like I need a physical copy and want 1080p, I would have paid $19.99 to own this show in HD. $39.99 makes no sense to me at all. I certainly won't pay that to stream a sitcom that isn't full HD. |

That surprises me a bit and is sort of disappointing as I had planned to buy it. Although now that I think of it the only TNT show I can think of off the top of my head that's come out on Blu-ray is Falling Skies: The Complete First Season.

I too would have bought Dallas on blu in a heartbeat, but now I'm reluctant to buy it on DVD. I've got Season 1 saved on my TiVo in HD. I may just stick with that since it's so much prettier to look at than SD. Did they expect Falling Skies to sell like gangbusters, hence the blu release? Really? Wasn't Dallas the highest rated drama on basic cable? I thought I read that a few weeks after its debut, but maybe that's not the case. If it's true, I would expect it on blu. Bummer.
