Cinemax renews Strike Back for 3rd season

http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-wat...ws-strike-back

"Strike Back" has been renewed for another season.

The action drama about a British special forces unit will return next year for its third season on Cinemax, and its fourth season overall, produced in a partnership between Cinemax/HBO in America and Left Bank and Sky in the UK. Many of the show's writers, directors and producers will return, but the press release says that "due to plot spoilers in upcoming episodes of season two, the cast of season three will be announced at a later date as well." (Could be that somebody major dies in the last two episodes, or that nobody else dies but they don't want us to be reassured of that yet.)

I know very few people in this forum watch this (since most here don't have Cinemax), but this news just made my day.

Now if there was ever a reason to start watching and get caught up, it's now. Best serialized action show on TV right now.

Who does the HE distribution? Sony recently acquired Left Bank, but I'm assuming nothing is really changing.

Home video distribution is still HBO since they finance half the show and it's broadcast on Cinemax, which they own.

Good to hear. Not a bad run for Cinemax's first major scripted drama.

Cool. I haven't watched any of this season yet, going to have a marathon session one of these weekends.

I watched the first (British) season and was seriously underwhelmed. Has it gotten a lot better on Cinemax?

Uhhh yeah. Best way to refer to the Cinemax version is 24 meets Call of Duty.

Re: Cinemax renews Strike Back for 3rd season

The two Cinemax seasons are very different from the first British season with different male leads.

Gone are Richard Armitage and Jeremy Lincoln, the new leads are Phillip Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton. Pretty much everyone from the first series is gone and replaced with brand new cast. The basic premise of the show stays the same, with two episodes covering each theater of operation. The production budget increased and it shows, and the overall story arcs are much bigger and higher in stakes. More T&A was added since it's on Cinemax. Overall, it's an improvement from the British season with much more intense action sequences.

I think you would like the second season and beyond. the first was pretty British in its style and reminded me of MI-5. i liked it a lot, but for different reasons than i like the cinemax ones.

You might like the faster pace, bigger action, tits, explosions, and exciting pacing. It feels like adrenaline on video sometimes. Hope you give it a shot.

So far I've liked last year better than this year. This one just isn't clicking even tho there are more explosions and ppl getting killed, including Sinclair. But the storyline itself isn't as good, IMO.

Re: Cinemax renews Strike Back for 3rd season

Thanks for the info guys. I love guns, explosions and tits, so I'm definitely in!

I'll give the 2nd season a shot and see if it catches me.

Re: Cinemax renews Strike Back for 3rd season

In the last 6 days I've watched season 2, and the first two episodes of season 3. I'm surprised by how likable the leads are and I'm having a fun time with it. It's mostly mindless fun, but it's pretty well done and a huge improvement over the dour and low budget first season.

One little thing I really appreciated was the big cut Stonebridge got on his forehead in the season finale had turned into a nice scar for season 3. They may heal magically fast, but I thought that was a nice touch.
