Who remembers Mr. Wizard?
I was thinking the other day about watching Mr. Wizard in his second TV run back in the late-80s. I always had more fond memories of his show compared to Bill Nye, and now thanks to this video, I think I know why:

Holy shit. He was a dick. I must have erased this traumatic moment from my childhood memory. I loved Mr Wizard. |

Re: Who remembers Mr. Wizard?
According to wikipedia, Mr. Wizard was a guest on the first episode of Late Night with David Letterman. I did not know that.

Re: Who remembers Mr. Wizard?
Good ole Don Herbert, he'd actually been doing that show since the 1950s I think. I did always enjoy the clueless Canadians in the Nick version though. I wonder if anyone has ever tracked those kids down to see what they are doing today, I'd find that interesting.

Re: Who remembers Mr. Wizard?
Speaking of kids on Canadian science shows, whatever happened to these two:

If you don't remember Mr. Wizard, then I don't want to know you!

Re: Who remembers Mr. Wizard?
Watching that video, it's shocking how many of those kids and experiments I remember.

Re: Who remembers Mr. Wizard?
Saw this in wiki.
In 1999, Stephen Gordon, founder of the furniture company Restoration Hardware, teamed up with Renee Whitney, general manager of a toy company called Wild Goose, to recreate the chemistry kits marketed by "Mr. Wizard" in the past. However, they found that most of the items in the original kits are now illegal to sell, and the resulting product they ended up marketing contained just 5 chemicals ("including laundry starch, which was tagged with an ominous warning: HANDLE CAREFULLY. NOT EXPECTED TO BE A HEALTH HAZARD").[16] Times change. |

Re: Who remembers Mr. Wizard?
What was the 60s cartoon that had a Mr. Wizard who lived in a tree. This turtle would stop by and Mr. Wizard would send him back in time. When the turtle got in a tight jam he'd start yelling "Mr. Wizard! Mr. Wizard!" Mr. Wizard would wave his wand saying, "Drazzle drazzle drazzle drome, time for this one to come home" and the turtle would be brought back to Mr. Wizard's tree.

That montage is awesome. Fond memories of Mr. Wizard on Nickelodeon.

He used to teach at Hogwart's, but was fired from the academy when he made Dumbledore look like an ass in front of the entire school. |

Re: Who remembers Mr. Wizard?
I was more into "Bits & Bytes" myself. Don't watch this video if you don't want the theme song permanently embedded in your brain.

Re: Who remembers Mr. Wizard?
I thought this thread was about the cartoon of the turtle who when he got into trouble he would yell oh, Mr. wizard!

Re: Who remembers Mr. Wizard?
I remember Mr Wizard from his first sereis. As a little kid a lot of the stuff went over my head, but we only had two channels to watch back then, so I watched anyway.
