Somebody said only a head writer gets WU but I don't think Dennis Miller was and I can bet Collin Quinn for sure was not a head writer.

Get Hader to do it if Meyers leaves.

Deadline has reported if Myers does take the Live gig, he'd only give up the head writers position and continue to host Weekend Update.

No, the reality is that the show has NEVER been consistently funny.

I'm one of the biggest SNL fans around. I've probably seen every single episode multiple times, including the horrible 80s ones. There are very very very few front to back funny episodes. Nearly all have massive duds, but there are some magical sketches you remember for all time. Those sketches skew people's outlook towards seasons and casts in general. But SNL has always been consistently hit and miss, episode to episode, since day one.

Agree everyone expects every sketch to be funny.

Maybe some people got older and don't get the jokes since they don't follow pop culture anymore though not all sketches deal with that subject matter.

Re: Saturday Night Live Cast Changes - Season 38

Meh..honestly a few seasons and some cast memebers/sketches aside I've never been all that big of a SNL fan really. Not to the point where I ever watched the show regularly or anything at least. The best years were the originals (Aykrodyd, Belushi, Chase, and co.) and in the early 90s with guys like Phil Hartman, Chris Farley, David Spade, Chris Rock, and Adam Sandler among many more.

Say what you will about Jenny Slate, but her inadvertently dropping the F-bomb on live television was probably the highlight of her season.

Or maybe SNL recycles their audience every couple of years since the original fans or fans back in the 80's and 90's got older and married with kids so they don't stay up past 12am and have the patience to go through the bad sketches plus they feature hosts and musical guests they can't recognize most of the time.

They probably can't relate to what they are spoofing now plus Andy Samberg appeals to a younger demographic and I doubt he has any fans with people over the age of 40.

I wish Brian Williams would do WU, in a serious tone.

He is content kicking Diane Sawyer and Scott Pelleys asses in the ratings.

Speaking of SNL, has anyone been listening to the SNL on Stern this week on Stern's SiriusXM channels?

Not much of new information from the hour or two I tuned into, but Jim Breuer had an amazing story of how much of a dick Adam McKay is which led to Breuer ultimately quitting the show.

They're up to Season 38? Thank goodness they stopped making the DVD season sets or I would have gone broke.

I have... it's mostly a lot of repeats from a month or so back. I loved the Chevy Chase call in -- what a TOTAL dick. Breur is great too... dude has way more talent than SNL ever let him show.

This is looking to be one of the biggest offseason talent drains SNL has seen in two decades.
Meyers leaving will be a blessing, not a drain on the talent.

Live with Kelly and Seth? Not so fast.

No, no, no, no, no, Meyers tells the Sun-Sentinel. I know [Regis replacement] is a very important thing down there. But, right now, what I would say to you: Im really in love with the job I have. Im very excited to be going back [to SNL] for the election season, which is always fun.

Possibly adding to Meyers' plate: NBC has left an opening on its Thursday night lineup for the upcoming fall season, leaving many speculating that it will reprise the Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday comedy specials that Meyers helmed in 2008 and 2009.

Hey, that's all anybody really remembers Charles Rocket's tenure on the show for, he's the guy who dropped the f-bomb and then himself got dropped.

Re: Saturday Night Live Cast Changes - Season 38

Just read about Elliot, too bad she isn't coming back, I figured that she would get more time with Wiig gone. Plus she was dropped as the lead from that Fox show.

According to the Sirius shows, Rocket was back on the next show and everyone was saying PUCK and trying to get him to say it. Rocket was told not to make any references to the slip up the previous week. On the news segment, he was further goaded into saying it and finally did say PUCK and that's what got him fired.

Who knows if he would've been fired anyway but it seems a pretty lame reason.
