Absolutely loved it. Watched it back-to-back even. Good to have Sorkin back on a weekly basis.
And I guess I'm one of the few who look forward to Olivia Munn.

Thanks for that Youtube link, great pilot, really looking forward to it. I guess this means I'll have to get HBO.

Shameless pandering to the geek crowd to build a name for herself (despite not really knowing/caring about what she's shilling), then using that as a springboard to a career as an actress. Or something. I don't really care, but I've seen that sort of thing argued enough to kinda/sorta know what's going on there.

One clip did show for one episode they'll focus on the Gabrielle Gifford shooting.

Great pilot. I loved it, as expected.
And it may be both preachy and sanctimonious but as long as it's not wrong then I'm OK with it.

I don't know why people are so hard on Munn's acting. In the credits she is wearing glasses, and thus will be wearing her big girl "i are serious" pants. In those 3.5 seconds, i really believed she was a credible and professional source of news.

Just saw it. I'm a huge Sorkin fan (except for a few chunks of Studio 60), so no surprise I loved it.

I enjoyed it. I hope the critics are wrong about the show going downhill after the pilot.
Nice to see Jeff Daniels back in a major role.

Overall, I really liked the pilot, but there were some moments that took me out of the show, like the dialogue getting a bit too cutesy or something. I don't know. There were just moments that felt like a different show. I'm also not sure what I think about them covering real events. I think the person who said they solved the BP oil spill in an hour is addressing the same problem I have. It's like hindsight news reporting. It felt weird to me and took me out of the reality of the show.

I'm really looking forward to this one. I was called in at 9am that morning and sat behind the switcher directing for 10 hours straight with no commercial breaks that morning. Interested to see the parallel from how we covered it to how they will try to.

I really hated it. It was smug, self-impressed and humorless.

Mad Men and Homeland.
The Munn hates seems ridiculous.

Very interesting show. The dialog was classic Sorkin, and every actor played their role well. Jeff Daniels is great, as always. I actually found it kind of weird that they covered the oil spill. Obviously it is meant to resonate more and give the characters a sense of place... but... I don't know it's hard to put into word... the disconnect between what really happened and how it was really reported vs. what we see on this show, knowing it's not a real news station and that the stories behind the camera are fictional.
I still really enjoyed it and will continue watching, but there was a strange curtain in front of the show that made it hard to really feel totally connected with it.

Okay looking back, what is up with Jeff Daniel's character having that good of a memory? Every statistic he rattled off, knowing every quotation that the woman tried to hit him with, as well as when he went out with the woman's dad to a baseball game and remembering everything that was said. I get that he is good at doing the news on the fly, but in terms of remembering those facts/observations, it started to get a bit into unrealistic Sherlock territory.

Of course they were unrealistically fast but it's not going away and I doubt it's possible to enjoy the show if one can't get past it.

Watched this earlier tonight and enjoyed it. Some of the dialogue was a little corny at times, but overall it was classic Sorkin. This is one of the few shows that you can't take all the negative reviews too seriously since it's pretty much pulling apart what those people do for a living.

Re: The Newsroom -- New HBO Drama -- "We Just Decided To" -- 6/24/12
My biggest fear with this show was the use of "hindsight" to make people look smart or dumb. They do that in the pilot (search and rescue vs. spill impact). In the pilot this was bothering me. Seemed like lazy story telling. I enjoyed the pilot, but I couldn't get past the fact that I know the former producer is "wrong" about the story's impact. They used that as a way to make the audience dislike him, but it seems like its taking a creative shortcut to me. I don't know if I will be able to get past this plot device angle. I'll keep watching to see.
