Cougar Town cancelled by ABC; Moving to TBS (2 season deal)
http://www.deadline.com/2012/05/its-...moving-to-tbs/
We broke the news on Saturday that TBS was in talks to pick up ABC’s comedy series Cougar Town. As we projected on Sunday, the negotiations reached a successful conclusion, and the cable network just announced the pickup. There are no details on the order but I had heard that TBS and Cougar Town producer ABC Studios were targeting a 15-episode one. TBS today announced a fourth-season pickup for Cougar Town to premiere in early 2013, though I hear the studio has the cast locked in for another season after that, so a fifth season could be in the cards too, bringing the series to syndicatable levels. In addition to ordering new episodes, TBS has acquired the rights to Cougar Town‘s first three seasons of 61 episodes that originally aired on ABC. While never a hit, the series starring Corteney Cox has enjoyed a devoted following by a core group of passionate fans. TBS’ pickup of Cougar Town complicates things for two pilots, CBS’ untitled Louis CK/Spike Feresten project and NBC’s Kari Lizer project, both of which star Cougar Town cast members in second position, Dan Byrd and Josh Hopkins, respectively. (Chances for the latter appear very slim at NBC.) This is the second consecutive Bill Lawrence comedy to switch networks, following Scrubs‘ jump to ABC following its 2008 cancellation by NBC. Lawrence co-created Cougar Town with Kevin Biegel. Turner previously picked up another broadcast series, NBC drama Southland, which was recently renewed for a fifth season by TNT.
I know there are a few Cougar Town fans here. But, I stopped doing weekly threads awhile ago. This show just never seemed to generate alot of discussion or interest here. I'm not a huge fan of the show, but I do watch it and it has a few decent moments here and there.

I was hoping that this season would be the final. I'm not entirely sure why, but I had completely lost interest in show by the time it returned, despite being a fan of the first 2 seasons.

Having it off the air so long certainly didn't help either.

Most comedies aren't going to generate a lot of discussion around here and the ones that do, people aren't discussing what was so hilarious about the show. Those comedies tend to be the most polarizing. With page after page of complaints about how that episode of The Office was the greatest/worst episode EVAR!!1 and .gif after .gif of Annie's boobs (not the monkey!)
Anyway, about Cougar Town. Good for them, and good for Lawrence. Yeah, the show's hiatus didn't help it any and it's usually the last thing of the week I tend to watch, but it still makes laugh and that's enough for me.

I think the only original TBS series I've sat thru from beginning to end was My Boys. I can't stand the Tyler Perry sh!t on the network.
anyways yay - stand by for promos with Monica and Jules
great title card. and a awesome ep this week - I can't see Travis/Laurie as a couple but what he did with the ipad was sweet.

Just want to clarify. The deal is actually for 1 season (15 episodes) plus an option year. According to the original story, the cast is signed on for 2 more seasons.

^ Yep Lawrence basically said "Look, we don't know what's happening with CT so go out and audition". But they were always contractually obligated to stay with CT should it be renewed.

And one of the articles I read seemed to indicate that Byrd's pilot wasn't going to get picked up.
Lawrence confirmed that all actors would be back.

While I don't watch this show, I just thought I would say that this is very interesting news. I didn't foresee this show moving to cable. It might be a better fit for it, though. Assuming most of its loyal viewers follow it over, it could find some renewed life.

TBS = Dead to me.
I didn't watch Cougar Town all the time, but when i did I laughed. Movie to TBS will kill this show completely for me just like a similar move killed Conan for me.

Bill Lawrence is leaving as showrunner when the show moves to TBS. He has a new production development deal with Warner Brothers. He will be a "Consultant" on Cougar Town.
