Bates Motel (S3E1)- Season Premiere- "A Death in the Family"- 3/9/2015
Synopsis:
Norma sets boundaries with Norman in the Season 3 premiere.
Season 3, Episode 1
Season premiere of this tonight. Its been a pretty solid series thus far in the first two seasons so I'm pretty excited about this starting up. Monday's are pretty good between this and Better Call Saul

Season one was great. Season two meandered a little bit too much imho (Dylan's storyline went nowhere fast). Still, I'm glad to have this back. Hopefully Norman goes full evil this year.

I agree...Season 2 got too wrapped up in the drug storyline with Dylan, which no one cared about. It also lost the dark sense of humor that Season 1 had.

I watched seasons 1 and 2 for the first time since each episode originally aired over the weekend. Marathoning them makes the storylines even more ridiculous and hilarious.
It's a guilty pleasure for sure (they even picked a critic blurb describing it as such for the Season 2 packaging!) but as far as soapy trash goes you can do a lot worse than Bates Motel.

It isn't a fantastic series but I think some people are being fairly harsh on it. It's way better than I ever expected it to be. I think the weakest aspect of it was the stuff with Dylan and the drug families and their rivalry. The stuff with Norman and Norma has been pretty solid though. Highmore and Farigma are both great in their roles.

I've heard we're getting much more of Olivia Cooke this season, which can only be a good thing...she was all but ignored for a big chunk of Season 2.

I love this show, but I'd already forgotten about much of season two after the 10 month break. I had to read the episode summaries on Wikipedia to refresh my memory.

That's one bad thing when shows run short seasons and have such a large gap between when they air. A lot of times I feel like I need to go back and re-watch the previous seasons or at least read over the threads and episode guides for the previous seasons. I remember most of the major plot details but there are some things that I've forgotten a bit.

I'm starting to wonder how much longer this show will last, before it lessens in quality. I didn't care for some of the storylines in season 2.

Pretty solid premiere if you ask me. The show continues to deliver on the creepy factor with really uncomfortable scenes with Norma and Norman in bed together way too close for comfort and Norman creeping on the new motel guest (Annika). The scene with Norman hallucinating about Ms. Watson was pretty disturbing too.
I mind Norman and Emma dating but I doubt they'll have a normal relationship given the way Norman tends to drool over other women in front of her, plus with her condition worsening I wonder if she'll be killed off at some point soon. Also I'm wondering if Norman killed Annika or if that's a red herring. He seemed to have the same look as when he killed Ms. Watson but who knows.
The stuff with Dylan and Caleb was probably the weakest aspect. Just not really sure where that's going to lead. I like Dylan but it sort of seems like the stories for the character tend to be the least interesting parts of the series.

One character I see being killed by Norman before Norma is Dylan. The original Psycho novel was based largely on Ed Gein. Gein had a brother died in an accident and later speculation has been that Gein killed him. I wonder if the writers of this show created Dylan out of inspiration from that aspect of Gein's story.

Yeah I can see Norman killing Dylan at some point. He's come close and shown a lot of aggression towards him in the past so it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him snap and end up killing him. I don't think he'll kill Emma though. She seems like the only person aside from Norma he really cares about, even though he treats her shitty at times.

Solid season premiere
Creepiness factor is back. Nice to see Tracy Spiradakos from Revolution here. Nice thong shot of her in the bathroom. And man, Norman looked creepy as shit staring at her through the window.
I feel creeped out seeing Norman and Norma sleep in the same bed. They do have a really borderline incestuous relationship.
Didn't expect to see Kenny Johnson back. I'm sure his days on the show aren't long.

I wish Norman took Dylan in that Porsche ride and came back at the end by himself.

My biggest issue with the premiere is they still seem to be avoiding the humor - I think as some point they decided to go dead serious on us...Season 1 wasn't like that at all. Hopefully, they're winding down the drug storyline - and only a passing reference to that bypass being built, which used to be a major plot point.

The creeper factor is back. That kept me both entertained and uncomfortable. Solid start this year.
