Eric needs to be on Hell's Kitchen.

Martie made brief mention of her show concept on this ep... Martie Party. Really Martie? Really?

Re: Food Network Star -- Season 8 Thread -- Premieres May 13, 2012

Linkie should have given more thought to what she was going to make. She got talked into churros and mexican hot chocolate not knowing how to make either. And then when it came time to produce she was screwed. Not that I think she was good enough to make it to the end and it does even up the teams so maybe that was the point all along.
That Alton's group won was a no brainer. They've gotten rid of the chaff and now they have the superstars.

Sorry to see Mr. Hand-Crafted go. I'll be his food is delicious.

Yeah, I liked Hand-Crafted Eric but it was pretty obvious that he wasn't going to last.

Eric is more suited for the Cooking Channel, honestly. Food Network has become more about competition shows and those that teach you how to do things quickly in the kitchen. "Hand-crafted" (a very pretentious term, I may add) stuff is far too much work for the casual home cook who just wants a meal and to get in and out of the kitchen in as little time possible.

So much for our praise of Emily. Those wheels came off in a hurry.

Nikki is like those Survivor Exile Island contestants who keep knocking off the competition to stay alive.

What did Emily expect? They tell her this week is about personal experiences and her response is "I don't want to talk about my life, I'm just gonna fake it."

You don't focus on the retro era the way she has without something bad happening to you and its traumatic enough you're more or less hiding yourself way in the era of the 50's. And then you want to go on TV and make a cooking show out of that?

She was doomed from the start on this task.

I'm still going to miss her. I would have no interest in watching most of these people's shows. Hoping Justin wins.

Justin is great, but he looks like he's wearing an entire stick of Cherry Chap-Stick in every close-up.

Yes. I can't stand his lip gloss. Wish he'd stop. He's definitely running away with the show though. Always seems to make interesting dishes.

Sorry to see Emily go. Really loved her until this past episode. She really came off like she's got a dark side she's hiding. Up until now she was bright and fun. She seemed a little spooky this time out.

That retro girl seems really messed up. She's obviously using her obsession for a decade that she never lived through as an escape from something that happened to her in the past. Lip gloss guy is pretty much the only real option to win the show, I like the weird stuff he comes up with each week.

Justin is good but I wouldn't count our Michelle or Martita just yet. They are looking to be the final 3.

It's nice to see that they place a higher importance on being able to tell a personal story than leaving 30 seconds' worth of dead air.

Well let's be honest here, do you tune in to a cooking show to learn how to prepare a particular dish or to know about the star's background and habits??...oh, wait...if I wanted to know about their personal life I would tune in to Entertainment Weekly or some such...?

The dead air did land her in the elimination round, and if they were just going on that (don't remember if they said), Emily was worse.

The dead air was one of the biggest fails in this show's run, though.

I am definitely rooting for Justin and would enjoy watching a cooking show featuring him, even if I never attempted to make a dish of his, just to see what crazy concoctions he comes up with! I doubt I could ever convince my family to try a peanut butter filled date with duck and nori flakes!?!?

Another vote for the Justin dude. Martita annoyed the shit out of me.

Glad Michelle didn't get the boot. She and Justin are the only two I like. I would never watch Nicki's "Grill Next Door" show. She's too fake.

Not sure what is up with Nikki's face--too much cosmetic surgery?

Michelle's departure would have confirmed the DVD Talk jinx

For some reason I just don't care for Michelle.

I did catch Maarti's new show over the weekend. It was awful. Does she still do her Maarti's Party show?

$20,000 gift card??? I hope Ippe's got some cash on hand to pay the taxman. Not sure you could even sell something that big for anything close to its value. And it would take years to spend that much money at Target.

Personally, I would have given it Justin for trying to kill Paula Deen.

I absolutely loved seeing his dry reaction to her being on set. For once, someone didn't gush all over her. It would have been even better had someone stated they can't stand her.

I kind of wondered that myself, -you could probably buy one of everything at Target and not hit $20,000.
