Re: Mad Men -- "Signal 30" -- 4/15/12
I'm expecting Pete to blow up at some point based on what's going on with him and the backdrop of random violence in the country at the time (ie. Speck and Whitman) as a hint. Could the writers be messing with us and be giving us a surprise instead?
Trudy's dinner part seemed out of the ordinary and didn't seem to offer anything too relevant with the storylines. Basically it just addressed Ken's moonlighting as a writer and Don fixing the sink that added to Pete's frustration. Seemed too much trouble for such little results. Is this a way for us to see more of Pete's family life before Trudy goes ape-shit? Trudy's long post-partum depression was mentioned at least once - could it be resurfacing? Maybe an act of violence will come from a woman now? |

It also addressed Don's change, which has been prevalent this season. This time his being able to have a good time socially with subordinates, in contrast to the surprise party. In seasons past he would do everything possible to avoid these interactions (the Clay/Liston fight in particular). Even this season going to the concert with Harry was a chore. Don's look towards the baby also showcases this change, most likely due to Megan's influence.
Apparently it also showed that Trudy was also out of touch, since I read on some blogs that the dress she was wearing was pretty out of style for 1966. |

Finally got around to watching this episode last night and agree with the majority of the posters here. This episode was awesome, Lane is one of my favorite characters on the show by far.
Liked the fight between Lane and Pete and was a bit surprised by it. I don't mind Pete but he can obviously be very arrogant at times. Also liked the dinner party and Don's scene with Pete in the taxi. I like that they're showing that Don is starting to turn over a new leaf and is changing into a better person. Shows that he's growing as a character instead of just staying the same womanizer he was. I don't think we'll see anything too crazy out of Pete. My guess is maybe he starts becoming more like Don. Unhappy with his life at home and starts sleeping with more women as he isn't happy with Trudy. |

The guy from Jaguar explicitly said that he and Lane didn't share the same 'interests', which might have been what Pete said  or might be that Lane wasn't a 'party' kind of guy.

But way less slick. He sucks at first impressions.

Don't forget that by following Rogers's advice, Lane went on and on about problems in his marriage in an attempt to get the Jaguar guy to open up about his own problems. maybe the Jaguar guy took that as an awkward attempt at making a pass at him?

Some other interesting things that I read elsewhere were that the first mispronunciation of Charles Whitman's name was Charles Widmore, a shout out to "Lost". Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof has been tweeting lines from Ken Cosgrove's short stories. I thought this was a pretty good episode summary: http://www.grantland.com/blog/hollyw...-pete-campbell |
