Synopsis:

Spoiler:
"Los Ciegos" - When the whole crew of the Magus goes blind due to spores from a tree, lone holdout AJ will have to overcome his most paralyzing fear to find a cure before the blindness becomes permanent. Meanwhile, the local Morcego tribe stalks the crew and judges whether they are worthy to stay in the jungle. If they are deemed unworthy, the consequences could be fatal, on "The River," TUESDAY FEBRUARY 14 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Episode 3 of 8

FYI, this episode was written by Glen Morgan, who worked on Millenium, The Final Destination 1 and 3 and X-Files.

Ugh. What a stinker. I've quickly come to the conclusion that I'm going to struggle mightily to make it through the next 5 weeks. This just didn't hold my interest at all. Mysterious tribe of jungle people? Come on man.

Another problem is that I'm having a real hard time understanding the dialogue. Usually I don't have any problem with accents but I'll be damned if I can understand what most of the characters are saying. 5 of them have pretty heavy accents and Lincoln mumbles. I wanted to know about Teri Bauer's supposed affair and stuff and the explanation came from a guy with a very heavy accent who was half dying and mumbling and groaning. I caught like every 4th word.

I'll most likely stick it out but this episode really lost me.

I wish they had just shot it without the "we're looking at it from their cameras" gimmick. I'm paying more attention to how did they get that shot than the actual story. Like when the 3 of them went back into the jungle to get the bulb thing. I kept seeing 2 different camera shots but only one cameraman. Then I noticed she had a camera strapped to her arm. How the hell can you get anyone in frame like that? And while the cameraman was under the tree during the cave-in, he's still got himself in frame. In reality (yeah, I know), I'd let the camera go and start to dig my way back out.

It shouldn't but it just takes me out of the show. It's bugging me now...grrr

If they had just shot it normally none of that would have been an issue. The documentary aspect of this show adds absolutely nothing, especially now that everybody is more concerned about staying alive than making a tv show.

Just because Paranormal Activity was successful doesn't mean that everything has to be filmed in that style.

Yeah, totally agree. Next thing you know they'll want to do a sitcom where everyone has a camera strapped on.

Well the Office is all filmed by a film crew in the office following them around. Close enough.

Well I was pretty sure at the end of ep 2 that the only cannon fodder left cast wise was the boat mechanic, the snarky director and of course the camera man.. Sooooooo as this ep unfolded it really looked like they were going to knock off all three of them in order. -eek-
Then of course everyone was some how saved in the last few min.. ack..

Oh well, not the best ep over all but again, I'm a sucker for the theme of the show and with so few eps to the show's over all run this season I'm still in as far as watching them all...

I did like the massive rant from the guy when he found out he had to under a tree for the flower bulbs..

I actually enjoyed this episode more than the premiere episodes, but it was still pretty cheesy. I can overlook all of the camera angle gimmicks, but I agree it is more of a detraction/distraction than not. For me, it's harder to overlook the fact that so far someone knows exactly what's up and then describes it to the group/us. The formula of "this is some weird stuff-glad one of us knows what's happening-let's look at the tapes for an easy answer" is hopefully over, but I'd guess it probably isn't.

Anyone else think of this?

That was pretty good except for the extended BLEEP BLEEEEEP BLEEP BLEEEEEP. I don't mind the occasional BLEEP but to keep going and going and going just got pointless. I'd rather hear some useable words during a rant.

I think a lot of us were intrigued with the premise. It has potential but the execution isn't quite there. It's a short series so I'm willing to watch and hope that the payoff is worth it.

Actually, I think this episode was as bad as everyone made it out to be. In fact, I felt it sucked but I enjoyed the first two eps. So, I'll keep watching it to give it a chance to hopefully get back on track. If I don't like the next episode, then I'll take your advice and stop watching it.

I have this problem, too. In fact, last night I put on the closed captions so I could understand the dialog. The side effect of that was that it forced me to pay full attention to the show instead of reading the paper or doing a crossword puzzle as I normally do. There were so many "holes" and "why would they do that?" moments, I lost track. Hanging on to the camera, as someone else mentioned, was a biggie, and then they sent a blind person to retrieve a tackle box while the guy who could still see sat in one place holding a towel?!?! Then, instead of bringing the whole tackle box back to the guy who can see, she has to open it and try find the fishing line stabbing her finger in the process?

It reminds me of those "find 6 things wrong with this picture" puzzles they have for kids, so I just look at it as an alternate way to enjoy the show. I'm going to keep watching since there's nothing else on in that time slot for me.

Yeah, I was only halfway paying attention to some parts. How did the TV producer guy get injured?

The captain guy "accidentally" stabbed him. I put accidentally in quotes because it was made to look like it was an accident, but that guy obviously has an ulterior motive, so who knows.

Yeah the producer walked up behind the captain who was on the lookout for natives. He was holding a large knife, got spooked, spun around and stabbed him.
