Re: The River -- 2 Hour Premiere -- "Pilot/Marbeley" -- 2/07/12

I liked it, but I had low expectations going in. In fact, I was quite surprised that both episodes turned out to be fairly straightforward ghost stories. I was expecting to get jerked around a lot with ambiguities and mysteries without any clear-cut explanation (I'm looking at you, LOST). But in both episodes it was made very clear that they were indeed dealing with honest-to-gosh ghosts and supernatural forces, and I thought the stories were told pretty well--especially the doll-tree little girl. I liked how--as the camera bounced around when they were running through the jungle--you would get very quick glimpses of the little ghost girl standing in the tall grass, watching them.

C'Mon man, Justified on FX.
Eh, the premise doesn't look very interesting.

Your loss.
It's one of the most well-written shows currently on television (including pay networks)!

Most of the characters already seem like they are key players and "safe" from being in too much danger..
It's easy...whoever's wearing the most red has to go.

Dude was dedicated to his craft.

Thanks to dino for clearing up a lot of my questions. If I'm really interested in a show, I pay closer attention. I was indulging my better half after the first half hour, so I was sorting through papers, taking a pee break, etc. while waiting for the 2nd showing of Justified to come on at 11:00 P.M.

Still hate the doc style & don't buy all of the explanations for all of the footage (several cameras everywhere, including passageways?).

Even setting that concept aside, you'd think Emmet's wife would ask the spirit to send a message in a more benign way than slashing her belly or drowning her (twice). If they can set up all the security cameras in the jungle, couldn't they at least provide one wireless link so the monster could email or tweet?

at the American-bashing done by the resident hottie 'of color', who sneered at clumsy attempts to communicate.

Hey, Sweetheart! How much English do you speak? If you hate the good ole USA so much, give back those gringo $ you and Papi are taking.

I think I watch too many HBO, Showtime, etc. shows. They pump up some of these network TV shows but they just seem watered down and boring in comparison.....

How about ONE slash for yes and two for no? Could have saved her some slashing

I liked the show, not in love with it, but I'll give it a season pass with only 6 more hours to go.

I HATE the son... he's whinier than my 9 year old daughter and skinnier than McCauly Caulkin. Could they not have found a more likeable person to play that role?

He also seems to be trying to cover some kind of accent, so I assumed he was an Aussie or something.

I thought the doll scene was hilarious!!

I'm sticking with it for Thomas Kretschmann.

He's British, and his American accent is pretty atrocious.
