Ah, Marvel Cards. I wasn't big into comics. My allowance money was going into sports cards. I saw these when buying some football cards and it triggered a collecting itch. I no longer have them but I remember having some of those holograms (Spider-Man, Hulk, Dr. Doom).

I've got a bunch of complete sets in storage. My father and were buying these from flea markets and card stores (had a guy in CA at the time like a dealer I would call).

But we always already bought them in complete sets (including the hologram cards). If I remember correctly, we bought a case of cards once to see about doing it on our own. Afterwards my father was like "We'll buy them already done from now on!"

I'm not sure what was more disturbing... Ming's button penis in his Speedos or Bryan looking like a ninety year-old man in his bathing suit.

Seemed kind of strange that they'll buy crap like a Mr. T water toy or Teddy Ruxpin, but they don't carry comic book trading cards. Did the bottom fall of those cards that badly?

I do not understand why the producers thought anyone was interested in seeing those water games being played by them.

The cards are worthless from what I hear. They became junk when the comic book industry imploded in the '90s. Pretty much anything associated with the comic book industry from that decade is nearly worthless today. Everything was vastly overproduced.

Cards from 1996 to about 2000 fared much better and some of these sets (Marvel Masterpieces 1996) sell for a really pretty penny.

Is that Marvel Masterpieces the Boris Vallejo set? That does command some crazy prices... individual base cards will sell for $10+, and complete sets can go for over $1000. I was looking up some Boris Vallejo books on eBay and saw those cards.

Those for sure. I don't remember the sets off the top of my head, but they were definitely late 90s sets when I'm sure most of the speculators had disappeared.

Same here. I thought he was joking with her but it seemed like he was kind of being serious about it and the fact that she was using an Aquaman costume as her own design. It's like Kevin said it's not like she's ripping off the artists or something and selling costumes.

Yeah I thought Walt kinda came across as a douche with the cosplay girl too. But I'm also shocked she spent $180 for a birthday gift for a friend.

I never got into the Marvel Masterpieces cards, since I never could afford them. Then, years later, I'd pick up all the holograms I wanted for a buck or two.

Interestingly, though, I did eventually buy two pieces of original artwork, both of which I thought were Marvel Masterpieces, though only one was.

Actually, the first one I got was only Fleer Ultra, but I didn't care, I was more a Hildebrandt brothers fan:

Not sure if it was a repeat or not, but I thought they'd at least stage some comics in that locker... either something really valuable, or boxes full of worthless 90's stuff.

The bidding sequence with their toy expert friend was ridiculously unbelievable enough. Any more would have been just piling on.

The hint of comics via the long boxes was more then enough.

Then again, the way earlier in the episode they ragged on the fakeness of the other storage auction shows when you can so clearly see them doing the same thing here just by having Bruce show up at that exact moment speaks volumes.

Yeah I didn't really get the point of that segment. I almost thought it didn't seem set up because they didn't find anything of value in that storage locker whatsoever but it had to have been set up. Either way it didn't add much to the show last week.
