Synopsis:

Spoiler:
"Express Christmas" - The family is gathered at Jay and Gloria's pool on a sunny December day, and that's where they realize that everyone will be scattered this coming Christmas, so if they want to celebrate together, then it will have to be today! Everyone sets off with their respective duties for Express Christmas - Mitchell, Alex and Lily get the tree, Jay and Cameron are in charge of gift wrapping, Phil and Manny get the groceries, Gloria and Luke go retrieve the ornaments, and Claire and Haley shop for all the gifts. When they all return in the evening, it's quite a sight, on "Modern Family," WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 7 (9:00-9:31 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Last new episode of 2011. Returns in January

The product placement for Target was ridiculous but Sarah Hyland in the bikini was worth it.

Worst episode I recall watching of this show. Hyland bikini gets the thumbs up though.

Manny's reasoning for it was almost as good. haha

Liked Cam's incredulity when he thought Jay said he could give him a 45-second hug.

The Phil and Cam ending was a bit much

Agree about Sarah and the bikini (and I'll add her shorts at Target)

The Target stuff was a bit much, but then again, I shop Target about once a week. Makes sense to me.

Not the best, but "I have two daddies," "He's got it Lil" got a big laugh.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one transfixed by Sarah Hyland's wardrobe this episode.

That was my impression too. The taser thing was pretty stupid.

The opening felt especially forced when they were discussing doing Express Christmas. It just didn't flow well. It felt like actors spouting out lines. I wasn't sure if it was just me.

Exactly. We're so conditioned to seeing generic stores in movies/tv that when we see an actual one that is realistic for the situation, then we cry foul.

It was more about the placement of the camera. The establishing shot was in the parking lot with the giant logo on the store front.

I'm surprised by the few that didnt enjoy the episode. I thought it was almost hysterical from beginning to end. I really enjoyed seeing some of the characters getting paired up differently (Luke and Gloria, Cam and Manny).

The whole "look" "luke" bit had me dying especially after Luke made a comment and then said he had been waiting on that for 3 years.

Sarah Hyland looked amazing as well!

I loved it! Especially the Mitch/Alex combo. Also the poolside conversation about their mom's Newsletter. It was hilarious how everybody except the original Pritchetts were regular readers.

Totally agree! I came on to post my love of this episode and assumed there would already be a bunch of posts with the same sentiment. Very surprised that some of you didn't like it. I thought it was one of the funniest ever. I laughed out loud often and loudly. The beginning seemed so fast paced and funny....one of those "pay attention" times since there were so many subtle, little lines and mini-jokes.

The Luke/look was great, and then came:
Luke: "One is my name."
Gloria: "Juan is not your name!"

Then there was Phil and the mint-near mint-fine-garbage baseball card.

My wife and I thought this episode was hysterical.

It made me all the more happy that I bought the first two seasons on blu-ray from FoxConnect for a little over $11 each. I look forward to revisiting those seasons. Also, once we were done watching this one, I didn't delete it. That's a rare occurrence for me. I will definitely watch it again soon.

I thought it was a great episode. I was the whole time.

Gloria: Look Luke! oh, I hear it now.

So nice to see the return of Barkley. I want one of those.

I liked Gloria shouting "El Diablo" when she saw it.

Glad to see most people had the same thoughts as me. Not a great episode. Probably the worst MF ever. It wasn't terrible, but I agree it all felt really forced. But, props to the show for airing an episode when everything else is on hiatus. Still enjoyed it even if it wasn't very funny.

That was the best part of the episode.

Really surprised people found Phil being tazed funny. I thought it went on too long and was a little over the top even for Phil. Mostly because the actor didn't sell it well I don't think.

Re: Modern Family -- "Express Christmas" -- 12/07/11

This was probably the most I've ever laughed during Modern Family (granted, I didn't start watching until Season 2. Haven't even seen Season 1 yet)

but damn, the Target scenes were gold
