I wonder what sort of favor Mr Gold will demand of Emma.

I liked how Cinderella's name in the real world was Ashley.

I'm a little lost. Where did they get the magic quill?

Pinochio's Blue Fairy made it.

I didn't catch that but I did realize that Snow White's last name is Blanchard.

So the premise was that once Snow white's kid solved the fairy tale's issue in the real world..that they would be able to go 'home' to the fantasy world?

 Ratings held up for this episode at 3.8.

Loving this show. It's fun to see all these fairy tale characters introduced and watch the stories play out in the dual universes. They do a great job with the costumes and sets in the fairy tale world. Robert Carlyle is great.

Clever little plays on the character names. I didn't catch those.

Something like that. I guess she is gradually waking the characters and helping create the happy endings in this world. Maybe they all can't go back to the fantasy world until all the happy endings are set straight or something.

It may make a little more sense once the kid gives her her codename. If she is waking everyone from their sleep, is the kid going to knickname her, "the kiss"? -rolleyes-

Although I like the dual stories, the production design is dreadful in the fairy tale world. Everything looks so cheap.

And Cinderella's prince/Ashley's boyfriend is a terrible actor.

Personally I found last nights episode to the first time that it WASN'T better than last weeks episode. But with that said it was still solid and I like the reveal of information - but something about the plot/cast didn't click like the previous episodes.

Though it works great for the show, shouldn't he get his teeth fixed? Or are they made that way for the show?

I know what I would ask Jennifer Morrison/Emma for if I was a single guy and she owned me a REALLY BIG favor.

Very happy that the ratings held up. I nervously await those numbers, because I adore this show and I'm hoping it will last several seasons and I'm really happy for Jennifer and Ginnifer.

I would agree that this episode wasn't as good as the previous ones, but I still liked it a lot and, other than Homeland, I'm not sure I'd expect any show to outdo itself every single week.

I'm not feeling Rumpelstiltskin's make-up, it looks quite poor on the show given the huge advances in make-up we have seen on other shows in recent years.

I thought this was a pretty good episode. The show has been solid so far.

 at the opening scene where Rumpelstiltskin blew up the Fairy God Mother.

I know Roc Shemp doesn't like the Fairy Tale sets, but I think for what they are doing, especially on a television budget and producing 22 hrs, they look pretty good.

I thought Robert Carlyle was great in the dual roles this episode. The makeup for his Rumpelstiltskin alter ego is pretty creepy IMO and I like his really evil voice.

I know I initially said I wasn't a fan of Ginnifer's short hair as Mary Margaret, but I'm actually liking it alot more now. It does look cute on her. It's kind of funny seeing Mary and Emma's scenes together since they are technically mother and daughter on the show.

I don't get the name references that a couple of you have mentioned.

Isn't her codename just going to be Mom?

The Cinder in Cinderella refers to fireplace ashes, hence the name Ashley.

As for Snow White being named Blanchard (Yeah, I had to Google this one): "Blanche-Neige" appears to be the French title of Snow White.

There's also Ruby, the waitress, who is actually Little Red Riding Hood.

And Rumplestiltskin is known as Mr. Gold in Storybrooke. In the fairy tale, Rumplestiltskin teaches a young woman to spin straw into gold.

I was pretty sure blanch was another word for white (possibly another language as joe_b posted) so I ended up googling it after the episode.

From merriam-webster.com

BLANCH
transitive verb
: to take the color out of: as a : to bleach by excluding light b : to scald or parboil in water or steam in order to remove the skin from, whiten, or stop enzymatic action in (as food for freezing) c : to make ashen or pale <fear blanches the cheek>
intransitive verb
: to become white or pale

My only problem with the show is that the actresses playing Snow White and Cinderella are unattractive women. Seems like weird casting. I think Jennifer Morrison is a butterface too..but sounds like everyone else disagrees. The evil queen/mayor and Little Red Riding Hood are hot though.

I do agree with this. There was something about the Cinderella thing that just didn't quite click with me, but it was still an entertaining episode. I'm enjoying the ride so far.

I may actually be slightly jealous of the beauty you must have around you if you conclude that's a butterface.
