Weeds - Season 8
Somehow, for some reason, this is happening:
From Deadline:
After lengthy negotiations with Lionsgate, Showtime has closed a deal for an eighth season of comedy Weeds. Production on the 13-episode eighth season will start next year for a 2012 launch. Weeds, created by Jenji Kohan, is the longest-running series on Showtime and the most watched comedy. It stars Mary-Louise Parker as a suburban widow-turned- full-fledged marijuana queenpin. Justin Kirk, Hunter Parrish, Alexander Gould and Kevin Nealon co-star.

I wish they'd just stop because I'm going to watch out of habit. And I'm going to likely bitch about it.

Last season got a bit better than it was the previous few seasons, but still a shadow of what it was and I really see no way they can get back to that ...

Agreed. It seems like so long ago when it was season 2 and I was calling this one of the best shows on TV. Count me as another one who will watch and likely complain.

I stopped watching after Season 4. I've always meant to go and watch the seasons that I haven't seen yet but based on the opinions of just about everyone it doesn't seem that worth it. The best things this show has going for it are Kevin Nealon is pretty funny and Mary-Louise Parker is hot. I really can't stand either of the kids on the show and didn't like the show after they left Agrestic.

Showtime has finally cancelled Weeds. Season 8 will be the last.

I'll watch this season. I thought Season 6 started to get the show back to solid, but last season was a disapointment. I guess since I have gone this far, I will finish it out. But I really wish I stopped after season 3 though

They have presumably already finished filming, correct? I've always wondered how TV shows work. Do they film all the episodes of a season, say, 6 months before the premiere?

I've been frequently annoyed by this show, but like Californication I find there's a level of writing and acting better than 90% of what's on television.

There's no rule. Some shows are completely filmed by the time you even see the first episode of the season. Some shows are barely ahead of the airing schedule. And that can change as the season unfolds (initially far ahead, but as the season progresses, barely ahead).

Network shows that launch in September or October start filming around July.
Cable shows like Weeds or Dexter start anywhere from 6 months to 1-year before their airdate. Dexter actually started filming last month. I have to assume that Weeds is pretty close to being done. One of the stars Justin Kirk has a new series on NBC that's launching in the Fall and the creator of Weeds is moving on to a new show for Netflix.

Won't miss it, although I like Kevin Nealon a lot. I enjoyed the first 3-4 seasons (can't recall exactly when it began it's sharp decline). I don't subscribe to Showtime, but ended up buying the season sets 2nd hand. I bought and quickly sold S6 before even finished viewing it. I think the last season I watched is when MLP got topless in the back of that Mexican official's limo whom she claimed fathered her baby (I believe) to avoid getting whacked? The show just became too far-fetched that I just didn't care anymore. In real life these characters would have been arrested and behind bars before S2.

Are seasons five through seven even worth watching? I stopped after season four because I just lost interest and thought the show was just getting more and more stupid. However knowing that there's only four more left and the seasons are fairly short I may consider going back to see how it ends.
Seasons one and two were really the best in my opinion and it sort of went downhill after that.

Agreed. Couldn't stand the Mexican cartel plotline, nor the running from Mexican cartel plotline, nor the escape to New York plotline. However, I do like that the upcoming season
