School me on Superhero Cartoons
My oldest has just hit his superhero worship phase so now I'm excited to watch superhero cartoons with him.
He's a big Batman fan but I'm a Marvel guy, so what awesome shit is out there for Daddy and Blakie to share?

My daughter and I have been enjoying Batman: Brave and the Bold, but sadly it is ending its run this season with only a few episodes left.

to Batman: The Brave and The Bold. I suspect that any age can find something to enjoy with that one.
I would also recommend The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. The animation style is great, and it has a compelling overall story arch.
Other suggestions;
Batman: The Animated Series
X-Men
Superman: The Animated Series
Superman (1988 Ruby Spears)
Spectacular Spider-Man

Do you have Netflix? They have a ton on there that my kids have been loving, including:
X-Men
Wolverine and the X-men
Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes
Lots of Spider-Man
Iron Man (fun one that has 1 Iron Man story followed by a F4 story with Stan Lee giving little segments in it)
There are quite a few more on there, but that's what we've gone through so far. They also love the old school Super Friends shows.

Wolverine and the X-men
Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes
Batman Beyond
Justice League (and JL Unlimited)
Those four are about as good as it gets.

Echo the mentions of Batman The Animated Series, Batman The Brave and the Bold, Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and Justice League/JLU (I haven't seen some of the others).
I'd add Legion of Super Heroes and some of the DCU movies--they're often rated PG-13 so read the reviews and use your parental judgment.

My little guy is 3 and he loves Super Hero Squad, which is definitely skewed towards the younger kids but it does a good job on introducing the characters. As he gets a bit older, I'll start to show him some of the other cartoons mentioned, but most are a bit too old for him. I've showed him a few minutes of some, but he didn't have an interest.
At what ages would kids start to like Brave & Bold, Mightiest Heroes, etc?

/\ I would consider Batman: TB&TB appropriate for nearly any age. The violence is minimal, and the overall tone of the show is more in line with the 60s Adam West TV series than any other incarnation of Batman.
The Avengers is a little more violent, but I would probably guess 10 or so is an appropriate age.

Superhero Squad is a fun show. Geared for younger kids, but it does a great job of referencing things in the Marvel Universe that only the parents would get.

Besides the obvious choices like Batman and Superman: The Animated Series, that show is criminally overlooked. Though X-Men: Evolution is aimed at older children. For a really young tyke, the early 80's series Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends is a great show with various heroes from the Marvel Universe as guests.

Re: School me on Superhero Cartoons
Pretty much without question the DC Animated series blow anything that Marvel has done out of the water (although my nostalgic Saturday Morning love for Spider-man and his Amazing Friends isn't happy that I feel that way) I can't recommend Batman The Brave and the Bold enough, really great.
Also, The Tick is a really fun super hero cartoon that can be enjoyed on multiple levels for adults and kids.
Justice League is in my opinion the greatest Super Hero adaptation of any of the medias, the storylines may get a little too complex for really young kids, but I don't think its too much of a problem.

Not sure about the US, but Netflix in Canada has added a lot of superhero shows in the last couple of days. I can't access the list from here, but I'll try to remember to post from home.

Iron Man: Extremis & Astonishing X-Men: Gifted should be the last two on your list for viewing order for sure. Batman:Brave & Bold and Superhero Squad are the best bets for his age.

Thinking as a 3.5 year old.. I would probably not mind watching old Blue Falcon and Dyno-mutt, Captain Caveman, Atom Ant, He-man, Thundarr, etc.

Re: School me on Superhero Cartoons
Now that you're mentioning non-humans, I recall that Krypto the Superdog was pretty decent from the two episodes I watched
EDIT: It's aimed at a younger set than many of the other series

Re: School me on Superhero Cartoons
Super Friends was cool to me as a kid, but if he ever gets into reading comics and explores the true nature of the characters, those eps. will really tick him off with how much of a mockery they made of everyone.
If he can handle the level of action intensity, I recommend the Batman and Superman animated series from the 90s; they were very true to the characters and had some really good stories that I'm sure you'll get into as well.

Go with the DC stuff for really young children, their series can be enjoyed by all ages for the most part.
