I think they are doing better with the side characters this season than they have in the past, with the exception of the new "magic Internet" guy. Although I assume that scene was a throwaway gag and we won't have the guy part of a big heist sequence where he hacks a password by furiously typing lines of codes into a laptop.

They better be going somewhere with Vince's interns. First the hot blonde who looked like she would stumble onto some big secrets because of her curiosity, but she's gone now? Then this guys comes in and cleans the traces of the auction from the internet. Ummm... ok. Now what?

I have a feeling that the Brother Sam and Gellar/Travis stuff will mix together somehow. I don't think Sam is involved on the bad side though. I just expect the storylines to merge in some way.

I'm liking the duo of Quinn and Angel. Some good comic relief there.

I met a girl at a Halloween party Friday night (she was dressed as one of Dexter's victims... you know, just saran wrap ) and she seemed shocked when I shared the dvdtalk theory of Gellar being a figmant of Travis' imagination. Maybe she just didn't pick up on the obvious or maybe the dvdtalk crowd is more attuned to picking up on this stuff than the average viewer. After all, we are all TV nerds here. :)

I don't see how anyone could not pick up on Gellar not being real. They've made it so obvious with the scenes in public where no one interacts with him.

I liked it but Dexter not killing Travis brought back memories of when Dexter foolishly letting Trinity go. Agree about the side characters, they've been much better. The new cop seems like a smarter version of Doakes.

I can understand Dexter letting Travis go because he knows that there is another person involved and he wants Travis to lead him to Gellar (who may or may not be real).

I think the big mistake Dexter is making is by wanting to go after Travis/Gellar himself. This is an active police investigation and the entire homicide division is working on the case. He's really putting himself at risk here -- it's a profile case and he's already let Travis see his him. Seems like a huge risk on Dexter's part if the police get to him first.

Dexter should just let the police handle this one, but he wants the catch for himself.

Everything you're saying could be applied to half the killers that Dexter has gone after. He's not exactly known for being cautious. Was Trinity not an active police investigation? (Kyle Butler?) The Ice Truck Killer? Lumen?

Yes, and each time he gets closer and closer to being caught each time.

Quinn had him pegged as Kyle Butler.

And Deb stumbled onto Dexter and Lumen's killing Jordan Chase. If it weren't for that curtain, she would have seen them cleaning up the murder scene.

And he's now making the exact same mistake with Travis that he did with Trinity, showing them his face and then letting them live.

Do the creators of this show know how the internet works?

Yeah, it's a series of tubes. I thought everyone knew that by now!

Haha yeah. A big symbol/meaning in Hinduism.

As for the internet and Dexter...it has always been dumbed down, such as using work related police records to do personal searches on a home computer. Also the Finder-Spyder search engine (which is also on Breaking Bad, and a few other shows, there is a German wiki article on this fictional site somewhere).

Plus the gigantic text messages with white text on a blue background for every single phone.

After Hanks took the out the newspaper with the Picture of Gellar on the front page I noticed that the paper that was in there after was a different front page. So maybe the one that he bought and looked at was a fogment of his imagination.

Yeah, I can't wait for the next two episodes. There's actually two characters returning soon. People have been talking it up on the IMDB board, and the Cast info for the future episodes confirms it. Nobody is saying exactly what happens, how it goes down, or what it means though, but here's some HEAVY SPOILERS / 'theory' for those too curious to resist.

Only the character reveal is an actual spoiler; the rest is pure speculation, but still... you've been warned!

Spoiler:
Dexter's brother Brian returns. Not from the dead (at least I hope not). The following week, Jonah Mitchell (Trinity's son) comes back. Again, I have no idea how things will play out, but it is assumed that Brian somehow overtakes Harry as Dexter's "voice of reason." What causes this? Well, all I can think of is that Brother Sam isn't going to survive, which causes Dexter to go a bit unhinged. Which may be sort of a stretch, considering that he remained somewhat stable after Rita's murder.

Anyways, Episode 7's synopsis is that Dexter and a "Fellow Dark Passenger" travel to Nebraska to take care of unfinished business. This is the episode that Jonah apparently appears in. So most think that Brian is going to convince Dexter that he needs to kill Jonah since he "knows too much." However, as far as we know, Jonah has zero idea about who Dexter REALLY is; he's aware that there were things going on between Dexter and his father, but nothing concrete. Hell, he doesn't even know that Trinity / Arthur Mitchell is dead at all, much less by Dexter's hand. Without some huge revelation, Jonah doesn't seem like much of a threat...

So that aspect is where the theories run wild. Some think that after finding out about his father, he possibly became very infatuated with serial killers, and that is was him who bought the Ice Truck Killer evidence off "eBay" and found out a link back to Dex. Some nutjob theories go as far as thinking Jonah is the one who shot Brother Sam as some sort of vengence against Dexter (ridiculous), and even that he was the one who killed Rita (insane).

Whatever it is, it's supposed to be a huge, game-changing twist / development that is going to change the show forever. Hopefully it lives up to the hype. All I know is the whole "Doomsday Killer" thing is going to seem like a boring "Angel and LuGuearta get married" subplot if even half of what people are buzzing about is true...
