Sons of Anarchy -- "Fruit for the Crows" -- 10/18/11
By djariya at 2011-07-24
Synopsis:
Spoiler:
Episode 7 of 13
FYI, FX renewed this for a 5th season this week. I posted a separate thread with all the details.
I just got caught up with the last 2 weeks and despite the silly Juice storyline, I still think this is a pretty good season so far.

I think there has to be a big death soon to make this somewhat believable...Juice, Piney (hope not), Clay (hopefully, but very doubtful), Tara ...ideally Piney and Jax would off every one of the asshole's in the club and start from scratch. That might be wishful thinking?

I actually like Tara alot now, especially her transformation into a tough Old Lady.
Clay IMO will definitely be part of the show until the very end.

If they don't all deserve to die for what they've done in the past, they deserve to die for continuing to follow Clay. Has anything good happened since they entered the drug trafficking business?

Well the ending makes that whole storyline even more silly....and kinda for nothing...

Also the scene w/Jax chasing those guys felt silly. They could have stopped at ANY time--he couldn't stop nearly as fast--and opened first with their automatic weapons, before he had a chance to take cover (assuming he didn't just wipe out first). Still, the scene at the apartment later was pretty intense.

Katey Sagal's "Strange Fruit" is pretty shitty compared to Billie Holiday's. Sometimes I think this show's musical choices are my least favorite part.

It's pretty clear from the audible crack of the tree branch that Juice is still alive. I keep reminding myself that this show is just fantasy with motorcycles but it's getting harder to overlook just how out there the storyline is becoming. Next they'll have a giant freeze ray threaten Charming.

When did the Stahl character make a return? (Federal authority figure who just abuses the system to get an in with the club)
Didn't we get enough of this type of storyline already? Why can't the writers come up with a credible way to get leverage on Juice than an entrapment, threaten the rat tag, send him back to the club? (and this ignores the initial racial angle) The only question left is does Juice have a wife that Clay can kill and then Juice can develop amnesia when the storyline is no longer interesting? (like Opie)
While better than season 3, my hopes that this show can get back to at least close to the Season 1 & 2 quality have almost completely faded.

It seems clear Juice will live and his story will just get more contrived.
That musical choice had nepotism written all over it. The instrumental part worked OK for the montage but once the vocals started it just didn't fit. The lyrics were relevant the but vocals distracted more than they contributed.
