Re: Boardwalk Empire -- "A Dangerous Maid" -- 10/09/11
Looking forward to watching this. S2 has reignited my interest in this show after a long hiatus of not watching or caring about it.

I haven't seen the episode yet but the first frame of that Promo looks ominous. Not exactly a young-un looking up for a father figure.

Really good episode last night. With this show at 9PM, and Homeland at 10PM, I actually don't care about Sunday Night Football anymore unless the Eagles are playing. :)

Whats the signifigance of the maind knowing whatserface's true identity? Is she supposed to be hiding from something?
Good episode, I like Nucky's new Irish muscle. Even though his storyline is reminding me of Furio from the sopranos. |

Oh, and did everyone notice that William Forsythe is in the next episode? One can only hope he has a scene with Al Capone. (For those who don't know, Forsythe was THE DEFINITIVE television Al Capone in the syndicated update of THE UNTOUCHABLES.) |
Re: Boardwalk Empire -- "A Dangerous Maid" -- 10/09/11
Her family doesn't think she is dead, she said they had a falling out when she left Ireland so that's probably why they are saying she is dead. I don't know why she wants to mask her identity though, there is something more to her character that will come out at some point I'm sure.

I agree that there is probably alot more to her character which we will learn throughout the run of the show that will be more shocking then any other character. Except Van Alden -screwy- |

"I keep my promises - I will destroy you." So Nucky says to Jimmy. Did Nucky mean it? Well, Nucky keeps his promises. I like how they showed Jimmy conflicted over "his two dads," and Jimmy's loyalties will be tested. Of course, Jimmy has more to be loyal to towards Nucky than to his biological father. If Jimmy decides he wants to go back with Nucky, it's obvious what Jimmy has to do in order for Nucky not to keep his promise. Namely, for Jimmy to kill whoever heard Nucky make that promise. Namely, those seated at the table with the Commodore, including the Commodore. It was disturbing to see Al Capone do so much smiling. It looked perverted, somehow. Are we to believe that Meyer Lansky and Arnold Rothstein don't speak or understand Italian? That was a helluva gamble "Joe The Boss" took when he talked about about them in Italian to Charlie. Since we see "Joe The Boss" now, guess it won't be too long before we see his arch rival Salvatore Maranzano. |
Re: Boardwalk Empire -- "A Dangerous Maid" -- 10/09/11
I'm a bit lost as to why Jimmy switched sides... Was he just looking to spend time with his real father? Was it because Nucky didn't promote him up the ranks fast enough?

Re: Boardwalk Empire -- "A Dangerous Maid" -- 10/09/11
Jimmy had always seen Nucky as a father figure, then he came to find out that Nuck had all but pimped out his mother to the Commodore. When they had a confrontation about it and Jimmy asked, did Nucky spend all that time with him because of obligation or because he genuinely cared about him, and Nucky's response was "does it matter?!". I think that whole episode and Jimmy's mother were the impetuous for him switching sides.

Re: Boardwalk Empire -- "A Dangerous Maid" -- 10/09/11
The look on Nucky's face when he looked over and realized the Commadore had gotten the last Lobster Thermadore was classic.
Telling all at the table that "I will ruin you" certainly sounded threatening and ominous. Can Nucky do it? And wow I thought Lucy looked super hot all naked and pregnant! |
Re: Boardwalk Empire -- "A Dangerous Maid" -- 10/09/11
I wonder if A Dangerous Maid might also refer to Margaret's maid, now that she knows Margaret's real name... or if it's just referring to the play Lucy was reading.

Re: Boardwalk Empire -- "A Dangerous Maid" -- 10/09/11
Finally all caught up with the first three episodes.
I guess I wasn't paying enough attention last season, but why is Van Alden keeping Lucy locked away? And why did everyone turn on Nucky so suddenly? |

Re: Boardwalk Empire -- "A Dangerous Maid" -- 10/09/11
It may or may not have any bearing, but Peggy is "short" for Margaret. On the show, shne's going by Margaret in the U.S., but it seems her birth name is Peggy.

Last season, the Commodore was weak because his maid was poisoning him. This season, he's healthy again and he resents Nucky for a variety of reasons, not the least of which because he feels Nucky usurped the Commodore's role in a variety of ways. So the Commodore wants to take over AC and everyone has to choose sides. Some are picking the Commodore's side because they have their own resentments toward Nucky. Others, simply because they think the Commodore will win. The problem is, I fall asleep constantly while watching, and don't realize how much I miss. |

Re: Boardwalk Empire -- "A Dangerous Maid" -- 10/09/11
To call Margaret's maid dangerous is stretching things. The maid got "familiar" with her charge, and that was Margaret's fault. I trust it won't happen again. So what if the maid knows her name is Peggy - I doubt someone like Margaret could have many secrets. Before she met Nucky, she doubled as a punching bag and a doormat.

Re: Boardwalk Empire -- "A Dangerous Maid" -- 10/09/11
I already said Peggy's "short" (a nickname for) Margaret. I still say she goes by Margaret in the U.S., not Peggy. What I'm not willing to state unequivocally anymore, though, is her birth name being "Peggy". It's quite possible she's using her birth name in the U.S., but went by "Peggy" back home, so that's the name she used to make the inquiry of her siblings. I don't have the episode anymore so I can't check what name was on the papers from the PI, but it would the make most sense that way.
