Episode 3 of 24

In case you didn't read my post last week. TV Guide reported that Terry O'Quinn is now signed on for 9 episodes instead of 6.

It's obvious that Kono is working undercover for Tom Sizemore to bust a ring of corrupt ex cops. Should be an interesting story, but it is so obvious.

 McGarrett's skydive rescue was ludicrously awesome. It's McGarrett's world and we're just living in it.

Yeah I agree with Sherm. I don't think Kono was fired from HPD after all. It appears she's on some deep cover assignment with IA. Billy Baldwin looks to be the main baddie she's investigating (Vigilante Ex-Cops?) Even though this show is a procedural, I'm glad they always manage to keep continuing storylines going in each episode.

McGarrett's skydive rescue was pretty exhilirating. Very well shot and edited sequence.

Overall, a fun episode with some interesting continuing storylines. Lots of potential going forward.

That episode was a blast.

I'm not buying Kono as bad either. Loved the little black dress and boots though. I know we're only two episodes in, but with the addition of Terry O'Quinn, Masi Oka and Lauren German (who looks extremely familiar) the character balance is all out of whack. One of the best aspects of the show was Danny & McGarrett together and they've had minimal interaction so far.

Agree, Hiro and the new girl throw off the team chemistry.

The show works best with the core 4 working together. But, I see what they are doing trying to create a beefy story arc for Kono's character and having her away from 5-0 for ahwhile. I don't mind O'Quinn's little arc and I can tolerate Masi Oka in small doses.

Not sure Lori really fits in and honestly I think it's a bad idea to make her a potential romantic interest for Steve (If that's what they plan to do). I'd rather have them bring back Michelle Borth since IMO she had really good chemistry with O'Loughlin and was useful to the team.

With some luck, they'll find a way to not make it so cliche and put a new spin on it. But I was saying the same thing at the end going "Really, does she really need to have that much anguish on her face in using her cousin's password? We know its a undercover operation!"

I don't have a problem with any of them. They are all good characters, they have just thrown off the dynamic of the show.

rotfl at Rambo skydiving and somehow making the save.

It's painfully obvious that Kono is working deep undercover for that I.A. dude.

Did anyone time the sky dive scene? In that a body falls at 55 meters per second and when McGarrett pulled the cord he was just below the approved 2000 feet level. With the time we could figure out how high the planes were when the body was dumped. And in that it was a prop plane we could determine maximum altitude. Most likely they would have gone splattt!!! but maybe?

It certainly seems like an absurd notion to think that such a rescue could really take place. I'd love to hear the opinion of an actual sky diver about this. But in the meantime, it was an awesome scene, so I'm willing to run with it and agree with your second point.

Edit: I seem to remember James Bond performing a similar stunt which involved a mid-air fight over a single parachute which Bond won and landed safely while the bad guy fell to his death. anybody remember which movie that's in?

Re: Hawaii Five-O -- "Kame'e" -- 10/03/11

The Bond movie was where he somehow fell faster than and caught up to a falling plane. It was Goldeneye.

But there might have been another one like you describe.

I believe it was Moonraker.

Moonraker is correct! thanks!

The only other thing I can say about the stunt is that Jack Lord's McGarrett would never have done it.

I forgot to ask last thread, how long has Tom been out of jail?

oh, and the sky diving guy was a Lt?
is that why in the picture he was wearing an enlisted uniform?
I hate that tv and movies always get the easy details wrong

mikehunt 10-06-11 01:43 AM

Re: Hawaii Five-O -- "Kame'e" -- 10/03/11

with a perfect set of circumstances I think a rescue like that could be done
if one person is doing a spread eagle or other high drag position another can catch up to them if they do a low drag position
but they'd pretty much have to have come from the same plane, say the first one out notices an issue and goes high drag and the next person out of the plane catches up to them.

but to come out of no where, and then have the plane land before they did?

and that goldeneye scene was ridiculous, since although he did the low drag fall the plane had a running engine which would have made it faster

Jack Lord would have found this guy w/o the need to be Rambo. And he wouldn't have messed up a hair on his head doing it. ;)

Good episode

I was a bit skeptical about the new cast members, but they are fitting in ok

Seal strike at the end was bad ass
