Synopsis:

Spoiler:
Welcome to the Jet Age. It's 1963. WWII and Korea are history. A new kind of war, a Cold War, is underway. The world is poised on the brink of a cultural revolution, and everywhere change is in the air. In this modern world, air travel represents the height of luxury, and Pan Am is the biggest name in the business. The planes are sleek and glamorous, the pilots are rock stars, and the stewardesses are the most desirable women in the world. Not only are these flyboys and girls young and good looking, but to represent Pan Am they also have to be educated, cultured and refined. They're trained to handle everything from in-air emergencies to unwanted advances - all without rumpling their pristine uniforms or mussing their hair. These pre-feminist women form a powerful sisterhood, as they enjoy the rare opportunity to travel outside the country -- something most women in this age can only aspire to - and one of the few career options that offers them empowerment and respect.

At Pan Am there's Dean (Mike Vogel), a cocky, charismatic and ambitious new pilot - the first of a new breed not trained in war. A farm boy from a small rural town, Dean finds himself thrust into a leadership position at Pan Am far too young, but is eager to prove himself as the new face of the airline. On the sly, he's dating Bridget (guest star Annabelle Wallis), a beauty with a mysterious past. Co-pilot Ted (Michael Mosley) comes from wealth and privilege, but his powerful family is a blessing and a curse, and he has his own dark secrets. A rebellious bohemian, Maggie (Christina Ricci) turns into a buttoned up professional for work in order to see the world, trying to balance her hunger for life with her undefined ambitions. Also on this crew is flirtatious French stewardess Colette (Karine Vanasse), who is the empathetic caretaker of the group. And finally there are the sisters, the spirited Kate (Kelli Garner) and her beauty queen younger sister, Laura (Margot Robbie), a runaway bride who recently fled a life of domestic boredom to take to the skies.

Starting next week Sunday nights are packed, but I am intrigued by this.

The "powers that be" in Utah have decided that we can't watch The Playboy Club...but we can watch this! I think I'll give it a spin, sounds interesting.

Nope, pass. One 60's era drama is enough for me.

However I'm sure everyone involved shit a huge brick once they saw how The Playboy Club performed.

I'm giving it a shot but Sunday night is packed for me. I don't know when I'll get a chance to actually watch it.

Damn I hate working, things were so much easier TV wise when I was unemployed.

The Playboy Club had generally poor advance reviews and next to no help from its lead-in (The Sing-Off).

Pam Am has been rather heavily promoted and has a slew of positive reviews (TV Guide, EW etc.). Having the final season of DH as a lead-in won't hurt either.

As far as the pilot goes, I'm sure ratings will be fine.

I'll watch.

Enjoyed it enough to try another week to see where it goes since the episode was mainly backstories; however, was not really into the espionage.

I liked it. The Spy twist was unexpected but welcomed.

Good start. I feel like ABC told them to tack on that final scene just so they'd have something to show in the promos, but other than that I hope they do a good job of mixing the glamor of the era with the darker side. Still has a good shot to be Mad Men-lite.

This is probably my favorite show of this fairly weak new season.

The Bay of Pigs thing should have been an entire episode, not a 5 minute flashback sequence.

I get that they are trying to recreate an era but they went way overboard on the big grin cheesy smiling; especially between the pilot and co-pilot.

Sunday has become way too crowded, but after the pilot, I am hooked. Looking forward to the show developing that espionage angle.

I thought this was a blast. Loved all the colors, costumes and style of it all. Great casting (cute chicks!). Hopefully, this will be some breezy, soapy fun.

I thought it was pretty solid but now that I'm in love with Laura I think I'm hooked.

I think the espionage angle will be the eye roller of the week so I hope they keep that to a minimum.

Light, breezy - I enjoyed it. I welcome more shows like this instead of crime/medical dramas.

Did Christina Ricci get a haircut on the way to the airport? In the opening scene, her hair was all long and wild and by the time she got on the plane she had a short pageboy style.

I enjoyed it as well. Probably the best of the new premieres I've seen thus far (isn't saying much). I'll continue to tune in.

So was it sanitized nostalgia where you don't see any cigarettes/smoking? I figure it being a broadcast net show, the network probably put the kibosh on smoking. From the promos I saw, it certainly had the costuming and fashion down.

No smoking that I recall. They're probably saving it for when they introduce more "sinister" characters.

I think I recall someone was either smoking or going to light up so the stewardess threw down an ashtray.

 Ooooh. I wonder what evil on a 60s Pam Am flight would be. Can't do Muslims.

Scary briefcase guy was smoking.

Did a quick scan through the ep.

MI6 guy, twice(plane & hotel room); one guy in chair in living room at wedding; another guy on plane reading menu; in recruiting, spy guy #1 offers cigarettes to stew spy.

There may be more, but thus far, all were just holding a cigarette in hand. Didn't see anyone actually puff. This may be their m.o. with dealing with smoking.
