First Time Watching Parks and Rec/Community

So I am getting into these two shows kind of late. Is it necessary to connect with these shows to go back and watch all the previous seasons? Also is there a good website that shows all the different relationships in the shows and who plays what style of character?

Or if someone really knows those shows can break it down for me?

Re: First Time Watching Parks and Rec/Community

I got caught up with Community in time for this season, as I hate jumping into a show without seeing them all, but in all honesty it's not really necessary. I think the only thing you really need to know is Jeff hooked up with Brita many times and has shared a kiss/chemistry with Annie, so there is a little dynamic between the three of them. Every other character is pretty self explanatory.

After you get familiar with the cast make sure you go back and at least watch "Modern Warfare" from season 1. They made the season 2 finale a sequel of sorts, and are probably going to make it a yearly thing.

Season 1 of P&R was hit and miss, but I would watch everything S2 and beyond because it's comedy gold. I don't like Community.

I would definitely recommend catching up on Community if you can. It's not completely necessary, but there is some definite character development and background that is worth understanding, not to mention some bloody fantastic episodes.

Rent or buy season 1 and 2 of Community 1st. There is so much character development and plot you will have missed. Plus if you buy them, they can be easily obtained under $20.

It isn't 100% mandatory since it's a new semester, but there are so many great episodes in the 48, now 49 that have aired so far.

Agree that it's probably not NECESSARY, but you're missing out on a lot of good comedy and in-jokes by not catching up. Technically, Parks and Rec is only 2 seasons too, since Season 1 was only 6 eps and Season 3 was only 16 eps.

I just spent the few weeks getting caught up on Parks and Rec via Netflix and it was well worth it. I'm working on Community now.

I say that it's ABSOLUTELY necessary to watch both shows from the beginning.

I think you'll miss a lot of the comedy in Community if you dont watch from the beginning, although it doesnt really hit its stride until halfway through season 1. I think Parks and Rec is a little less necessary, but would benefit just because of how great the seasons were before.

Disagree. S1 of Parks and Recreation was a bit of a wash. None of the characters really "gelled" until S2 (if fact one central character leaves). Leslie Knope herself gets a huge character makeover after S1 into a much more likeable role. Plus the whole pit story was kinda the pits except for it gave the show Andy and Ann. You SHOULD jump in immediately and catch up with the old when you can if you feel so inclined.

I'll echo the sentiment to skip S1 of Parks. That show didnt find its stride until S2. They basically retooled the show between S1 and S2 and changed the dynamic and personalities of many of the characters. Alot of the comedy in Community has been watching the character slow descent into lunacy so I would watch that from the beginning. But its not a necessity.

I completely disagree about not watching season 1 of P&R. By watching it, you can see how the show completely transformed itself into something that is nothing short of being the top comedies on TV right now.

And the last few episodes start to transition Parks & Rec into the great show that it is now. S1 is only six episodes so give it a watch.

Maybe watch it after you watch Season 2, so you don't feel like giving up on it. S1 Leslie Knope is basically female Michael Scott in terms of cringiness.
