"Intense Violence" warning, fellas.
We know what that means....game on. |
Re: Breaking Bad -- "Hermanos" -- 9/4/11
Wow, incredible moment when Mike's car pulls up next to Walt's.
The tension in this show is now at epic levels |

Manny from Scarface!
I think that was the best episode of the series IMO, with almost no http://supremereaction.files.wordpre...kylar-grey.jpg http://www.mediabistro.com/fishbowlD...al/cocaine.jpg in it too |
Re: Breaking Bad -- "Hermanos" -- 9/4/11
One of the best episodes of the entire series; right up there with the best of last season, in my opinion.
I was so totally absorbed in the flashback that I forgot the episode was almost over. Gus is such an intimidating figure; it was great to see some of his past and how he got his start. I'm really looking forward to finding out who Gus is and why the Don spared his life. I love how Gus has apparently been taunting Hector; he's such a cold bastard. Anyone else get a sort of gay vibe from Gus and his partner? I thought it was interesting to see Gus's partner pleading for them to spare Gus's life, arguing for his value, much like Walt has done for Jesse at times. It was also great to see that Gus had reasons for the fingerprints and his association with Gale; I figured he would have contingency plans like that, but it was nice to see one put into effect. Giancarlo Esposito does such a good job portraying a psychopath just below the surface; it was eerie watching him in the elevator, with the tapping of the fingers and the closeup of his face. And then to see him switch to playing a young man, with such ambition and enthusiasm, was equally impressive. And then there's the seemingly sadistic pleasure he gets out of meeting with and taunting Hector. He really needs to be nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Emmy this year. I'm really glad Hank hasn't given up and isn't buying Gus's story. Based on Mike's phonecall it definitely seems they have someone on the inside at the DEA, but it doesn't seem like it's Hank's boss; maybe Gomez? There was a hilarious tension watching Mike pull up alongside Walt's car as they were discussing the tracking device. Walt sure does suck at playing it cool. And speaking of Walt, it will be interesting to see where they take his relationship with Jesse, since there should be some added tension now that Walt knows Jesse is withholding information from him. It's sort of interesting to watch Hank "break bad" in his own sort of way, by operating outside the law. I like what they're doing with him though, since he's really the only person to root for on this show. |

Fuck that was amazing.
Fuuuuuck. Slow burn is over. |
Re: Breaking Bad -- "Hermanos" -- 9/4/11
I laughed when Mike pulled up next to Walt in the background.
Great episode...I hope Walt doesn't think Jesse is going to betray him because of the text. |
Re: Breaking Bad -- "Hermanos" -- 9/4/11
The show has never been ultra realistic, and I'm not one to nitpick much, but unless hank was just testing walt in the scene in the parking lot, it was a little tough to swallow.
Hank has always been presented as real sharp when it comes to detective work, and his impression of gus is that he's extremely sharp as well. How does he 1, go ahead with an illegal act that gus can use to get any charges against him dropped. And 2, recruit his family members to do dirt and face the consequences against a potential big time drug lord? I get that he's really obsessed with this case but it seemed really unrealistic to me. But he potentially is suspecting walt now and perhaps he was just testing him. If that's how it turns out it would be great. I did laugh at the look on mike's face when he pulled up and looked at hank and walt. The stuff with gus and the cartel was excellent. I can't wait to see how that turns out. |
Re: Breaking Bad -- "Hermanos" -- 9/4/11
Did Hank say that he got the tracker from Skymall? Is she selling spy devices now? :)
Didn't Gus once tell Hank he got into the business to provide for his daughter(?) after he had gotten divorced. I don't quite remember the whole story... I'm not sure if that contradicts what we saw here. |

I keep reading on other boards that everybody thinks they were lovers and that one of the lines Hector said made it seem like he knew they were gay (or something along those lines) |
Re: Breaking Bad -- "Hermanos" -- 9/4/11
I didn't get that vibe, but I'm not good at that. Also nothing from Hector or the bosses suggested that.
My only guess about Gus is that his family was kinda related to Pinochet when he was in power. |

Re: Breaking Bad -- "Hermanos" -- 9/4/11
Awesome episode this week with the exception of not much Jesse. Nice to see an episode that was mostly centered on Walt though. I really liked the flashback scene with Gus and the Cartel. Walt really isn't good at playing it cool the entire scene with Hank and him in the Pollos parking lot he was acting overly paranoid it seemed like that would cause Hank to have some suspicions. The questioning scene with Gus was cool too, he's a very collected individual who can manage to seem so normal and next scene be a cold blooded evil person. Excellent acting by Giancarlo Esposito I agree that he needs to be nominated for a supporting actor role. This season, much like last had kind of a slow start but I think it's definitely beginning to pay off as this episode was great and next week's seems like it'll be even better.

Another excellent episode. My only complaint is that Hank asking Walter to put a tracking device on Gustavo's car should've been responded to with "You want me to put a tracking device on a drug mastermind's car, in plain sight, one who is possibly responsible for a recent murder? Fuck you Hank. Fuck you."

Re: Breaking Bad -- "Hermanos" -- 9/4/11
Hector did insinuate that Gus and his partner were gay with an offhand reference about how they probably enjoyed seeing him piss in the pool. However ... I took this as more of a macho thing from the enforcer to the two well-dressed wannabes.
It's obvious that Gus was already "somebody" ... with his knowledge of how the cartel works, it makes me wonder if he is somehow related to the drug trade in Chile. Hank's move with the tracker seems about in-line with the character. No one believes him. The case is dead unless he does something. It won't yield evidence that could be used against Gus in court, but could give Hank clues as to whether or not he's on the right track. Knowing that he was investigating the right guy would up Hank's tenacity over his "gut". |

Re: Breaking Bad -- "Hermanos" -- 9/4/11
Anyone else enjoy the call-back reference to the kick of chile/"chile p"? (Of course, since the call-back was in a flash-back, maybe it was a call forward. :) )
Also, why did Walt need to tell Jesse that Hank knows who he is? Just for the benefit of the audience? Because they have had a bunch of run-ins (showdown at the RV, Hank kicking Jesse's ass, and probably more). |
Re: Breaking Bad -- "Hermanos" -- 9/4/11
I definitely think you're all looking way too much into the possibility of Gus being gay. Unfortunately in today's society it seems like everyone is suspected of being gay unless they have women hanging on to them.
I think Hector's comment was the same as some kid talking shit to another over Xbox Live...just an offhand, immature insult. As it's been mentioned before, Gus has told Walt that he has sons and a wife too if I'm not mistaken. Breaking Bad's wikia says this as well (I know not everything on there is 100% accurate). Considering how mysterious and private Gus is it doesn't surprised me that we haven't heard much or seen his family. |
Re: Breaking Bad -- "Hermanos" -- 9/4/11
Didn't Walt have dinner with Gus & his wife once?
